Ghostbusters is available now on Blu-ray and DVD. To help promote the release, Walmart, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Mars, Wrigley and Kellogg’s are teaming up for the annual Boo It Forward campaign. The idea is to make a bundle of goodies, and then secretly deliver it to someone. The recipient then plays it forward by putting together their own little treat bundle and secretly giving it to someone else.

Review: Game of Your Life – help your family or help your friends

Game of Your Life family night movie (P&G and Walmart)

The kids and I saw an online screening of Game of Your Life. It’s a movie about a college freshman named Zach Taylor. Zach recently received a scholarship to the prestigious Digital Institute of Game Design (DIGD). Now he must survive the first three months of college because the game design program will eliminate half the class by the end of the term. Bottom line: Game of Your Life is an interesting family-oriented movie. Gamers will most likely get a kick seeing how video games are designed. The new family night movie (Facebook) from P&G and Walmart will premiere next Friday, December 2nd on NBC at 8pm ET/PT (7pm CT).

Six Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Tick tock. Father’s Day is less than a week away. This year, I might get my dad an electronic photo frame. I think he’ll like it — especially if I upload a bunch of photos of his grandkids to the frame. Now that my dad is retired, I can actually see my dad on Father’s Day. He use to be a cook and was never able to get Father’s Day off. I wonder why. Anyways, if you’re still looking for Father’s Day gift ideas, below are some items on my wish list. I found these items in the electronics section at Walmart.

Hello Earth, Goodbye Waste

Friday, April 22nd, is Earth Day. Recycling is year round, but this time of the year I usually focus on recycling items that our garbage hauler won’t collect. I store these items in the garage until I’m ready, and then I take the items to the appropriate place for recycling. I mentioned in another blog post that you can recycle your batteries and fluorescent bulbs at Home Depot, but there are several places that offer free recycling:

  • Best Buy – electronics like TVs, DVD players, computer monitors, audio and video cables, cell phones, etc
  • Target – aluminum, glass and plastic beverage containers, plastic bags, MP3 players, cell phones and ink cartridges
  • Walmart – Samsung, Durabrand and Ilo consumer electronics (other brands are recyclable for a fee)
  • Ikea – paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, compact fluorescent light bulbs and batteries
  • Lowe’s – rechargeable batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), cell phones and plastic shopping bags
  • Home Depot – batteries and fluorescent bulbs
  • Goodwill – computers, computer accessories and some electronics items
  • Salvation Army – plastics (old wastebaskets, broken Rubbermaid products, large children’s toys), broken jewelry pieces (including the backs of earrings), stuffed animals, cardboard, metal, cell phones, old computers and computer monitors, purses, clothing, shoes, and books
