I recently watched season two of Silicon Valley (HBO). The series is about a new start-up trying to survive the cut-throat world of Silicon Valley. I love the show. It’s funny, the characters are geeky, and the episodes are interesting. If you have not seen the series yet, I highly recommend it. Silicon Valley: The Complete Second Season is available now on Digital HD, and will be on Blu-ray and DVD on April 19, 2016. Note: there’s a lot of bad language in the show (it’s rated TV-MA), so don’t watch with your kids around.
I recently watch the third season of The Americans on DVD. The series is as good as ever. I love the series about two Russian spies posing as an American couple in the Washington D.C. area. The acting and story are both excellent. But what I love best about the show is that it’s so realistic and fits in with the Cold War era of the Reagan administration. In addition, I care about the main characters. They are Russian spies and are essentially the bad guys. But I can’t help but root for them. They are very likable and they have to deal with the same issues as most American parents of teenagers. The Americans Season 3 (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment) is available now on DVD and digital HD. The 450-minute DVD set includes all 13 episodes of season three on four discs. BTW, I received the DVD set for review on my blog.
I recently watched season six of Modern Family. I love the series. It’s one of my favorite TV series. Unfortunately, I have four kids with various after-school activities. As a result, I missed many of the episodes last season. It’s a good thing Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the DVD to review on my dad blog. Now I can watch all the episodes I missed last year. As expected, season six is just as funny as the previous seasons. The characters are still funny and the dialog is so witty. And taken out of context, the things they say on this show are so inappropriate. Modern Family Season 6 is available now on DVD.
Have you guys seen ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat? My family and I started watching it last year. We love the show. It’s really funny — especially the episode about one of the kids’ third eye. If you have not seen the show yet, you should. Season two just started. And if you want to catch up on season one, then you are in luck. Thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, I’m giving away season one of Fresh Off the Boat. BTW, Fresh Off the Boat S1 is available now on DVD. Did you know you can watch TV just about anywhere — even when you’re on the road? It’s true. All you have to do is download an app for your smartphone or tablet, or visit a website on your laptop or desktop computer. Then all you have to do is log in and you can watch your favorite TV shows or sporting events live, or download shows to watch offline. Pretty cool, right? And very convenient. I know there have many occasions when I could’ve used the TV Everywhere app. For instance, earlier this month I waited over an hour to re-register my car. And there have also been many times when I had to wait a very long time for a table at a restaurant (we’re a family of six and apparently tables for six are hard to come by). BTW, thanks to TV Everywhere, I’m giving away a prize pack on my dad blog. The prize pack consists of a $25 Visa gift card and a TV Everywhere tablet cover.
I have a fun giveaway for fans of My Little Pony. Thanks to Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studios, a reader of my dad blog will win a copy of My Little Pony Tales: The Complete TV Series. The two-disc set includes all 13 episodes of the show, which originally aired on TV in 1992. My Little Pony Tales: The Complete TV Series will be available on DVD on April 28, 2015. Man of the House, an online resource for dads, is hosting the “World’s Greatest TV Dad” contest. The bracket-style competition features 32 father figures from television shows. Voters can vote weekly for their favorite dad in each pairing. The dad with the most votes in each match-up advances until there is only one dad left on June 17th. The TV dads were selected by the editorial team of Man of the House. They used four criteria for their selection: (1) shared household responsibilities, (2) relationship with children, (3) personal health/style/appearance, and (4) work/family balance.
P&G and Wal-Mart invited me to a special online screening of their new TV movie, Truth Be Told. The film is actually part of P&G’s and Wal-Mart’s Family Movie Night series. The two companies partnered to provide programming that are fun and action-packed. They also designed the programming so dads and moms don’t have to worry about inappropriate ads or content. Walmart and P&G teamed together to create the Family Moments initiative to help parents and their children better connect with each other. Family Movie Night (enter their sweepstakes to win a 55″ LCD TV and home theater system) is a part of their movement to provide meaningful entertainment for the entire family. The premiere of Truth Be Told will take place this Saturday, April 16th. It will air on FOX at 8pm (7pm central time).
