New movies this weekend include Thor: The Dark World (Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston), Ass Backwards, Best Man Down, and How I Live Now. I saw Thor (review) earlier in the week and loved it. The film is awesome! Continue reading for a summary of the new movie releases for this week.
My son and I saw an early screening of Thor: The Dark World last Monday. We loved it, but I was surprised the film was more of a science fiction story than a superhero story. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of ass kicking by Thor and other Asgardians. But there’s also space ships and worm holes, which I didn’t expect. Thor: The Dark World (Marvel Studios) opens in theaters today. The 112-minute movie is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence, and some suggestive content. My son and I saw an early screening of Marvel’s The Avengers last Monday. The film is about a band of superheroes, The Avengers, and their mission to stop Loki from conquering Earth. My son and I loved it, and think the movie is awesome. Joss Whedon, the director, does an expert job combing action, drama, and comedy into the Marvel world of superheroes, villains, S.H.I.E.L.D., Helicarrier, and cosmic cube. Marvel’s The Avengers [Facebook | Twitter] opens in theaters today. Below is a quick summary of the film. Continue reading for the full movie review of The Avengers.

Marvel’s The Avengers opens in theatres everywhere next Friday, May 4th. My oldest son and I are really excited and can’t wait to see the movie. In case you can’t tell, we’re big fanboys. That’s one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity to host today’s giveaway on my dad blog. Thanks to Marvel, I’m giving away an Avengers prize pack (Avengers adult t-shirt, Avengers 3D glasses, and a set of six Avengers buttons). It’s a shame I can’t pick myself as the winner because I would love to win an Avengers t-shirt and 3D glasses.
Super geek dads and moms should check out the RTC23 line of Marvel superhero LCD and LED HDTVs from Roundtable Concepts. The superhero TVs don’t come with any super powers, but they do feature pictures of superheroes at the bottom of the frame. And when you turn on the TV, superhero characters appear on the TV screen for about 8 seconds. Other than that, there’s really nothing super about the TV’s. And now that I think about it, the eight-second delay when you turn on the TV might be a little annoying after a while.
Currently, the super heroes featured are Ironman, Hulk, Elektra, Storm, She Hulk, Silver Surfer, Captain America, Thing, Invisible Woman, Thor, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, and Ghost Rider.
