Fanboys can rejoice — X-Men: Apocalypse has finally been released and it will make an excellent addition to your superhero movies library. X-Men: Apocalypse is the third installment of the rebooted X-Men series. In this third film, humans continue to hate and fear mutants. Mutants are divided over this issue. One side, led by Apocalypse, believes mutants are superior and deserve to rule over all humans. The other side, led by Professor Xavier, believes mutants and humans can co-exist peacefully together. BTW, Stan Lee, the creator of Mavel Comics, makes another cameo. There’s also an extra scene at the end of the credits (fast forward to the very end). X-Men: Apocalypse is available now on Digital HD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD. Note: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the movie for review on my blog. As always, the opinions expressed are mine and I am not obligated to write a positive review.
My family and I went to Marvel Universe LIVE! in Portland yesterday. The event features superheroes and villains in an action-pack setting. It was awesome. We loved it. Their stop in Portland is over. The tour’s next stop is Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin. For a city near you, check out the Marvel Universe LIVE! tour on their website. If you have not seen the superhero event, you should. It’s a lot of fun and will keep you engaged through out the show.
As I mentioned previously, Marvel Universe LIVE! is coming to Portland, Oregon. The kids and I can’t wait to see the the spectacular event. According to what I’ve read, Marvel Universe LIVE! is the largest assembly of Marvel super heroes and villains. There are over 25 superpeople (is that a word?) — including Spider-Man, the Avengers, X-men, Loki, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, and Aldrich Killian. Marvel Universe LIVE! will be at the Moda Center March 3-6.
The kids and I are really excited about the Marvel Universe LIVE! show coming to Portland. The action-packed event features over 25 Marvel characters — like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk, X-men, Loki, and the Green Goblin. The show is filled with award-winning special effects, cutting edge pyrotechnics and amazing aerial stunts. Marvel Universe LIVE! will take place at the Moda Center March 3-6, 2016.
I have an awesome giveaway for fans of the X-Men, Wolverine, or Hugh Jackman. Thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, I’m giving away two copies of The Wolverine Blu-ray (2-disc version) on my movie blog. I saw it last summer and loved it. Hugh Jackman is perfect for the role of Wolverine. I can’t wait to see it again. BTW, The Wolverine is out on Blu-ray and DVD today.
My son and I saw an early screening of Marvel’s The Avengers last Monday. The film is about a band of superheroes, The Avengers, and their mission to stop Loki from conquering Earth. My son and I loved it, and think the movie is awesome. Joss Whedon, the director, does an expert job combing action, drama, and comedy into the Marvel world of superheroes, villains, S.H.I.E.L.D., Helicarrier, and cosmic cube. Marvel’s The Avengers [Facebook | Twitter] opens in theaters today. Below is a quick summary of the film. Continue reading for the full movie review of The Avengers.

Marvel’s The Avengers opens in theatres everywhere next Friday, May 4th. My oldest son and I are really excited and can’t wait to see the movie. In case you can’t tell, we’re big fanboys. That’s one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity to host today’s giveaway on my dad blog. Thanks to Marvel, I’m giving away an Avengers prize pack (Avengers adult t-shirt, Avengers 3D glasses, and a set of six Avengers buttons). It’s a shame I can’t pick myself as the winner because I would love to win an Avengers t-shirt and 3D glasses.
The kids and I are looking forward to this summer’s superhero movies: Thor (May 6), X-Men: First Class (June 3), Green Lantern (June 17), and Captain America: The First Avenger (July 22). The Green Lantern movie is the one we want to see the most. We’re practically fanboys. That’s why three of us wore Green Lantern costumes last Halloween. That’s also why we were happy when we received a couple of Mattel Green Lantern toys for review.
For those of you are not familiar with Green Lantern, he’s a character from DC Comics. The Green Lantern Corps are like the policemen of the universe. The main character of the upcoming movie is Hal Jordan. He is the new Green Lantern of sector 2814, which includes Earth. Hal and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps have magical rings that give them the ability to create constructs (like weapons, force shields, flight suits, etc) with their imagination.
Last week, I put together a DVD movies gift guide. This week, I decided to put together a list of books that would appeal to many dads, moms, and kids.
If your children love superheroes, then they will also love the three superhero guides below. We purchased the DC Comics and Marvel encyclopedias a couple of years ago and they are getting a little beat up because my seven-year old son looks at them all the time. Plus he treats his books like he treats his baby brother — Rough with a capital R. Recently, my son checked out the Avengers guide at the library and likes it too, but there is a lot of overlap between the Avengers guide and the Marvel Encyclopedia. These three superhero guides feature pictures and interesting facts about superheroes and supervillains. I highly recommend the DC and Marvel encyclopedias. And if you don’t want to shell out the bucks for those two books, I would suggest going with the less expensive Avengers guide.
- The DC Comics Encyclopedia (List Price: $40, Amazon: $28.61)
- Marvel Encyclopedia (List Price: $40, Amazon: $26.40)
- Marvel Avengers: The Ultimate Character Guide (List: $16.99, Amazon: $11.55)
