Hello, dads and moms. We’re at a volleyball tournament at Oregon State this weekend. It’s the last club volleyball tournament of the season. OSU is my alma mater, so this is going to be one of those walk down memory lane trips. Anyways, I have two winner announcements today. But first, below are the current contests on my dad blog.
I can’t believe the school year will be over in less than two months. It seems like the school year goes by faster every year. I’m sure our kids can’t wait to spend the summer break outdoors. I love being outside too, but I hate the pesky mosquitoes. Not only are they annoying, but they could be serious health risks too. It’s a good thing the experts at Orkin study the science of mosquitoes and other pests closely in order to better tailor plans that help keep them out of your home this summer. BTW, I have a fun giveaway for the young scientist in your family. Thanks to Orkin, I’m giving a Summer Scientist Prize Pack on my dad blog.
Looking for something to do with the kids this summer? Here’s an idea: bowling. Thanks to the Kids Bowl Free program, your children can almost bowl for free. By almost, I mean they can bowl two games for free each day. However, shoe rental is not included. Most bowling centers will charge their standard rate for shoes. But if you’re lucky, your bowling center will have unlimited shoe rental summer passes for sale. Continue reading →
School is over for my kids. It’s time for their summer break. They have 11 weeks of summer vacation. Can you believe that? I only get two weeks off at work every year. Not fair. Not fair at all. Anyway, if you’re looking for an inexpensive activity this summer, Regal’s Summer Movie Express starts this week. Admission to their Summer Movie Express movies is only a dollar. The films are not first-fun movies, but they are aimed at kids and a dollar per movie is a great deal. In addition, a portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute.
Summer is just around the corner. Now would be a good time to sign up for one of the Harlem Globetrotter Summer Basketball Clinics. They will take place in Austin, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York / New Jersey, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, and Washington DC. And thanks to US Family Guide, you can get $10 off with the promo code USFAMILY when you register for a basketball clinic. You better hurry because space is limited.
I have an awesome deal to announce on my dad blog today. Thanks to an exclusive offer from Specials by Restaurant.com, you can get two movie tickets to use at one of your favorite movie theaters and a $50 Restaurant.com eGift Card for only $28. That’s right, you can take someone special in your life to the movies and dinner for less than $30. Don’t miss out on this show stopping event — this offer is only available for a limited time. Specials by Restaurant.com deals make great gift ideas for everyone.
I recently sent some questions to Chefs Stephen Kalil and Jody Denton over at the Frito Lay Flavor Kitchen. They sent me their response in the above YouTube video, which was totally unexpected. If you’re planning on entertaining on Memorial Day, then you’re going want to check out the YouTube video above. Their tips cover cooking, grilling, stress-free party preparation, and recipes. I think the tips are really helpful, and I plan on following their tips this Memorial weekend and also in the future for other get-togethers at our house. BTW, thanks to Frito Lay, I’m also giving away party packs to five readers of my dad blog.
We took the kids bowling for the first time several weeks ago. The kids and I had a fun time. While bowling, I learned I’m better at bowling on the Wii than I am in a real bowling center. Anyways, I want to let dads and moms know that AMF is offering free bowling for kids this summer. Their free bowling started on Memorial Day and will end on Labor Day. During that period, kids under 17 can bowl two free games each day (that’s 14 games a week). Yes, there are a couple of catches. First, shoe rental is not included. Second, kids have to bowl before 8pm.
The fine folks over at Libby’s sent me a couple of recipes for smoothies (Tutti Frutti and Double Peach). What perfect timing — making smoothies for my little one is on my To-Do list. Thanks to Libby (Twitter | Facebook), I’m also giving away an assortment of Libby’s Fruit and Acrylic Hurricane glasses.
I made the Tutti Frutti smoothie over the weekend. Because the toddler is allergic to dairy, I used So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt (dairy and soy free). The verdict: the toddler loves it, which is practically a miracle because he is a very picky eater. That’s why he lost weight in almost every single weigh-in since his nasal feeding tube was removed three months ago. Two of my three other kids also like the Tutti Frutti smoothie. Next weekend, I plan on making the Double Peach smoothie with So Delicious Coconut Milk and Yogurt.
