The kids and I watched Moana over the weekend. It was my youngest son’s birthday so we made a party out of it. He didn’t want a Polynesian theme party. Instead, he insisted on dinosaurs. He’s into that right now, so we had a dino-theme Moana birthday party. I know that’s a weird combo, but it’s really hard to argue with the birthday boy. Plus we had a really fun time. The little guy laughed a lot during the animated film — especially the scenes with Heihei the chicken. If you have not seen Moana yet, you should. We highly recommend the movie. It’s a fun flick for the entire family. Moana is available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Note: I received a movie kit from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (WDSMP) for reviewing Moana on my dad blog. As always, the opinions expressed are mine and I am not obligated to write a positive review.
Can you believe it’s been 15 years since the first Shrek movie came out? It’s true. I use to watch Shrek over and over again on DVD with my oldest child when she was just a toddler. Now she’s going to turn 16 on Monday. When you’re a parent, time really flies, right? Anyways, we had a fun Shrek swampathon and watched all four Shrek movies. My youngest ogre is only seven, and has not seen Shrek before. Like his oldest sister before him, he loves Shrek. In my opinion, Shrek is one of the best animated films ever. It’s very entertaining for both kids and adults. The 15th Anniversary Shrek and the Shrek 4-Movie Collection are available now on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and DreamWorks Animation.
We recently watched the first Kung Fu Panda (giveaway) movie on DVD. We’re watching the second one later this week and will attend a red carpet event for Kung Fu Panda 3 this Saturday. We’re so excited because the kids and I love the Kung Fu Panda films. BTW, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and DreamWorks Animation sent us some goodies to throw a small Kung Fu Panda party at our house. Kung Fu Panda and Kung Fu Panda 2 are available now on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD. The re-release includes a bonus disc of new content — all-new 22-minute animated adventure (Secret of the Scroll) and sneak peek of Kung Fu Panda 3).
As many parents know, How to Train Your Dragon 2 (DreamWorks and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment) was released on Blu-ray and DVD last week. It’s a fun movie. We saw the animated film at the theater last summer and again last weekend during our family movie night. In addition to seeing the film again, we had dragon snacks (popcorn, cookies, fruit snacks, Goldfish, juice boxes) and did some fun activities. Actually, we ate snacks while we watched the movie and then did some activities after the film. The whole family had a good time. We loved the movie, enjoyed the snacks, and had fun with the dragon activities.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD on November 11th. We saw it at the theater last summer and loved it. We plan on watching it again on Blu-ray next week. In fact, in a couple of weeks we plan on having a dragon theme party. There will be dragon snacks and activity sheets (sharing these in my giveaway post later this week). I also plan on dressing my little one in a dragon costume. How cool is that? Might as well make use of the Halloween costumes we only use a couple of times a year. BTW, if you can’t wait to see the animated movie, you can watch How to Train Your Dragon 2 now on digital HD.
We recently had a Frito-Lay and Skylanders party at our house. Actually, we had two parties. The first party involved only our family — my wife, my two sons, my youngest daughter and myself. My oldest daughter didn’t join us because she’s a teenager, and teenagers are too cool to hang out with the family. Our second party was mainly for my oldest son and his fifth-grade buddies. Everyone at both parties had fun. Before I tell you more about our fabulous parties, I want to let everyone know the winner of the Frito-Lay and Skylanders Giveaway on my dad blog is Kristie Newton.
Earlier in the month we hosted a Max Steel party at our house. My son invited two of his friends and my daughter also invited two of her friends. My pre-schooler even joined in on the fun. Everyone had a turbo good time. We watched a Max Steel DVD and played with some Max Steel toys. Everyone liked playing with the action figures, but the Max Steel turbo sword was everyone’s favorite. I think everyone thought the sword’s blue light and turbo sound were very cool.
The fifth installment of House Party is out on DVD. To be honest, I have not heard of House Party before. So it’s a big surprise to me that there are five of these movies. As a father of four kids, I don’t exactly throw wild house parties. But I’ve been to a few in college! Speaking of house party, I’m giving away a copy of House Party: Tonight’s the Night DVD (Warner Bros.) on my movie blog.
Whenever I hear or see the “Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner.” slogan, I’m reminded of Wendy’s old campaign, “Where’s the beef?” Those commercials were really funny (anyone remembers those commercials?). Anyway, I hosted a small party recently. We were actually planning to go out for our daughter’s seventh birthday, but then the inlaws showed up unexpectedly and they didn’t want to go out. So I quickly found a pineapple burger recipe on BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com (recipes, tips and information about beef) and fired up the grill. Even though everything was last minute, we all had a good time.

I recently sent some questions to Chefs Stephen Kalil and Jody Denton over at the Frito Lay Flavor Kitchen. They sent me their response in the above YouTube video, which was totally unexpected. If you’re planning on entertaining on Memorial Day, then you’re going want to check out the YouTube video above. Their tips cover cooking, grilling, stress-free party preparation, and recipes. I think the tips are really helpful, and I plan on following their tips this Memorial weekend and also in the future for other get-togethers at our house. BTW, thanks to Frito Lay, I’m also giving away party packs to five readers of my dad blog.
