Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is re-releasing A League of Their Own on Blu-ray on April 18th. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this movie. I liked it 25 years ago, and I still think it’s excellent after watching it again recently. The story is about two sisters joining the first women baseball team. It’s a humorous drama, but I think most parents will appreciate the underlying message that women can live their dream.
Gifted is a film about a single man raising a child prodigy in a heartwarming story from director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) that asks, how do you create an ordinary life for an extraordinary girl? I have not seen the movie yet, but I’ve heard it’s good. Thanks to Fox Searchlight, you can see Gifted at a theater near you. I’ve giving ten prize packs consisting of run-of-engagement movie passes and promotional swag. Note: my giveaway is limited to readers with mailing addresses in the state of Oregon and Washington. Gifted opens this Friday in select theaters. It will open nationwide on April 12th.

Sing isn’t in stores yet, but we’re already seen the Blu-ray twice. We love the animated musical comedy. The film kinda of reminds me of American Idol, but better. The story is interesting and the singing is outstanding (you’ll want to sing along!). In my opinion, Sing is fun for the entire family. As an added bonus, the Special Edition Blu-ray and DVD include three mini-movies (my favorite is Gunter Babysits). And thanks to Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Illumination Entertainment, a reader of my dad blog will win a Sing Blu-ray. Sing-tastic! Sing will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on March 21st.
Sing is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD next week. I have not seen the animated film yet, but my kids can’t wait to see the movie. To help celebrate the new release, five readers of my blog will each win a prize pack consisting of a Sing DVD/Blu-ray and promotional swag. Awesome, right! Sing (Illumination Entertainment and Universal Studios Home Entertainment) will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on March 21st. Note: the giveaway is limited to readers in Oregon and Washington. I have another Sing giveaway for the rest of you in a few days.
The kids and I watched Moana over the weekend. It was my youngest son’s birthday so we made a party out of it. He didn’t want a Polynesian theme party. Instead, he insisted on dinosaurs. He’s into that right now, so we had a dino-theme Moana birthday party. I know that’s a weird combo, but it’s really hard to argue with the birthday boy. Plus we had a really fun time. The little guy laughed a lot during the animated film — especially the scenes with Heihei the chicken. If you have not seen Moana yet, you should. We highly recommend the movie. It’s a fun flick for the entire family. Moana is available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Note: I received a movie kit from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (WDSMP) for reviewing Moana on my dad blog. As always, the opinions expressed are mine and I am not obligated to write a positive review.
Valentines Day is just around the corner, so be sure to check out the cute Valentines cards above (click on the graphics to download). As you can see, the cards feature characters from the movie Rock Dog (Lions Gate). The film will open in theaters on February 24th. BTW, you can watch an early screening of Rock Dogs next Saturday (February 18th, 11am) at Regal Pioneer Place by downloading movies passes on the Sony site.
Disney is releasing Pinocchio this week. You know how Disney works. They like to pull many of their movies from retailers and store them in their magical vault. Then they release the titles again many years later. This time around, Disney is releasing Pinocchio in stores. And for the first time ever, Pinocchio is available in Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere. That means you can cut the cord and watch the film anywhere without strings. Cool, right? I also like the digital HD option because I don’t have to find a place to store the film. After a couple of decades of collecting DVDs and Blu-rays, I have run out of space on my bookcase. BTW, I received a movie kit for writing this review. As always, the opinions expressed are mine and I am not obligated to write a positive review.
