Make it Wild, That’s Awesome, Party Animals, Sock ‘n Boots Book Reviews

Make it Wild!: 101 Things to Make and Do Outdoors By Fiona Danks and Jo SchofieldMake it Wild!: 101 Things to Make and Do Outdoors
By Fiona Danks and Jo Schofield
I checked this book out at the library. Unlike the other DIY books I reviewed last month, Make it Wild! is intended for kids (ages nine to twelve) instead of dads. The book includes instructions, parts lists, photos, and safety tips. What I like best about this book is that the authors encourage children to use their own creativity and imagination. The finished product doesn’t have to look like the one in the photograph. It can look like whatever kids want it to look like. We have not had a chance to try out the projects yet, but some of the ones that look really interesting are flaming balloons (a cool project, but my kids might accidentally set the yard on fire), paper making, leaf plates and bowls, ice windows, ice ornaments, ice lanterns, and snow lanterns (hopefully it will snow this year). The 160-page book is currently selling for $18.21 at Amazon (List Price: $24.95).

Book Pig Book Club for Children – Win a Gift Certificate

This week’s giveaway is brought to you by Book Pig, which is a Netflix-style book rental club for children. The online children’s book club offers a convenient and inexpensive way for dads and moms to help their kids read more. Book Pig is a cheaper alternate to bookstores for dads and moms. For instance, if your kids read 15 books this summer, the books will cost about $105 (based on an average retail price of $7 per book). With Book Pig, the cost is only $36 to rent the 15 books (5 books a month at $12 per month for three months). You can check out books for free at libraries, but with Book Pig there are no wait lists and late fees. Thanks to Book Pig, I’m giving away three $40 gift certificates on my dad blog.

BookSwim – the Netflix of Book Rentals

BookSwim online book rental library serviceLast month, I received an email from BookSwim. I had never heard of them before so I took a quick look at their site. After my quick peek, I could see that BookSwim is something that might interest some book-loving dads and moms. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to write about BookSwim until now. [Disclosure: I did not receive any books, membership, or compensation for writing this review.]

What is BookSwim?
BookSwim is an online book rental library service for dads and moms. They are like Netflix, but instead of movies, they rent hardcovers, paperbacks, and college textbooks. According to BookSwim, they stock all the latest bestsellers, new releases, and classics. Like Netflix, books are delivered directly to your home and you can keep the books as long as you want (no late fees).

Acer and Intel K-12 School Library Makeover Contest

Dads and moms, check out the Acer and Intel K-12 School Library Makeover Contest. Two deserving K-12 school libraries will be awarded ten new Acer Aspire Timeline notebook computers (valued at nearly $10,000) and two all-in-one desktop computers. School staff members, teachers, dads, moms, students, geeks, and vampires are encouraged to submit an application for their favorite school. The application process is fairly short (school name, contact, address, phone, email, and a brief statement explaining why the school deserves to win a library makeover).
