Looks like it’s another slow week for new releases. New DVDs and Blu-rays this week include Jason Bourne (review), Secret Life of Pets (review | giveaway), and Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures (animated). I’ve seen Jason Bourne and Secret Life of Pets. They are both excellent. My kids also can’t wait to see the new Lego Star Wars film. No Starch Press has a new book out. It’s called The LEGO Animation Book: Make Your Own LEGO Movies! I received the book for review on my dad blog and I can tell you it’s as cool as it sounds like. The 216-page book is full of great information on how to make animated LEGO movies. My oldest son has been playing around with making animated movies and he thinks this book is awesome. It features useful advice and wonderful graphics for the budding stop-motion animator. The book was written by expert brickfilmers David Pagano and David Pickett. In the book, they share their insight from over twenty years behind the camera and introduce readers to the basics of animation before walking them through the creative process step-by-step. The LEGO Animation Book: Make Your Own LEGO Movies! is available now. It has a list price of $19.95, but you can currently purchase it on Amazon for $14.76.
There’s a new Lego Star Wars movie out on DVD. It’s called Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. I received the DVD for review on my dad blog. We loved it. We’re big fans of Lego Star Wars and the new DVD did not disappoint. The stories take place after Return of the Jedi and before The Fore Awakens. As you can probably guess, the central characters are R2-D2 and C-3PO. They are two of our favorite Star Wars characters. The 110-minute DVD features the two droids in five 22-minute episodes. In addition to the fun episodes, the DVD also includes an exclusive trading card set. As I mentioned already, Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales is available now on DVD.
New DVD and Blu-ray movies this week include Creed (Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan), The Night Before (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen), Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales (animated), Legend (Tom Hardy), LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash (animated), Miss You Already (Toni Collette, Drew Barrymore), and The Danish Girl (Eddie Redmayne). My fanboy kids will want to see the new Lego Star Wars (review) and Lego Justice League movie. As for me, I want to see Creed and The Night Before. Good morning, dads and moms! Today we’re going to a Chinese New Year party. It’s the year of the goat. Anyway, I have two winner announcements this morning. But first, below are the current giveaways running on my dad blog.
Have you or your kids seen LEGO: DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League yet? We love the animated Lego movie, but my youngest child really loves it. We checked it out at the library and my kindergartener has seen the movie 50 million times so far. It’s a good thing the DVD is a three-week rental! Thanks to Warner Home Video, a reader of my dad blog can win the new LEGO: DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League Blu-ray. Isn’t that totally awesome?
I received a set of Blok Squad Police Force Pursuit for review on my dad blog. Initially, I thought the brick set was for my two-year old toddler to play with it. We have several Mega Bloks sets already and I thought this was another one of those big bricks set that’s easy for toddlers to play with it. But the Blok Squad Police Force Pursuit is actually intended for kids ages five and up. Before I get to the review, I want to mention there is still a few days left to win a back-to-school kit in the Mega Bloks Family Club contest. They are giving away kits daily and everyone that enters will also have a chance to win $250 worth of Rose Art school supplies. You better hurry, the contest ends Thursday (September 22nd).
