The fourth movie of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series (based on Jeff Kinney’s book series) features a new cast. The original cast is gone, but it’s not a reboot. In Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, the Heffley family takes a long road trip for grandma’s 90th birthday. And because Greg is always getting into trouble, the trip goes wrong. Snatched Blu-ray Review

Snatched | Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn make an unexpected team-up in Snatched. The team-up is unexpected because I have not seen Goldie Hawn in a movie in a long time. She was so funny back in her day. In her new film, she’s the cautious mom of Amy’s character, who is young and adventurous. The movie is about the two of them trying to escape from some kidnappers in South America. The story is a little predictable, but it’s funny and the dialog is witty at times. Snatched is available now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD. Note: the movie is rated R for crude sexual content, brief nudity, and language throughout.

Big Little Lies Blu-ray Review

Big Little Lies Blu-ray | HBO Home Entertainment

I just got back from vacation and have been watching the new HBO series, Big Little Lies. It’s an excellent show and hooks you right from the first episode. That’s when we find out someone has been murdered. I’ve only watched four episodes so far, so I have no idea who was killed. I’m guessing it’s one of the main characters. The suspense is killing me. I want to know who died, why, and who the murderer is. If you have not seen the HBO series yet, you should. You won’t regret it. Big Little Lies, which is rated TV-MA, is available now in Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD.

Gifted Blu-ray Review

Gifted | Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Gifted is a story about a custody battle between the uncle of a child prodigy and her grandmother. Each one of them thinks they know what is best for the child. The story is a bit predictable at times, but the story is also very realistic and the acting is excellent. Gifted, which is rated PG-13, is available now in Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD.

Smurfs: The Lost Village Review

Smurfs: The Lost Village | Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

The kids and I recently watched Smurfs: The Lost Village. My younger kids loved it and thought it was funny and entertaining. I thought the new Smurfs movie was OK. The main reason I didn’t enjoy it more is because until I watched it, I didn’t know it was a fully animated film (no live action). The third installment is related to the second Smurfs movie, but humans are not in the film. The story takes place completely in the Smurfs world, which is a shame because I liked the Patrick and Grace characters in the first two Smurfs films. But if you or your kids like animated films or Smurfs, then you’ll enjoy the latest Smurfs movie. Smurfs: The Lost Village, which is rated PG, is available now in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD.

The Space Between Us Blu-ray Review

The Space Between Us | Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

The Space Between Us is a light drama with a touch of romance and sci-fi. It’s about a human boy born on Mars who returns to Earth. He hooks up with his penpal girlfriend and goes on a quest to find his father. It’s essentially a coming-of-age story about a boy who grew up in a sheltered environment and a girl that doesn’t quite fit in at school. Even though I was expecting a sci-fi story, I still enjoyed the movie because I liked the interaction between the two main characters. The Space Between Us is available now on digital HD and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on May 16th. Note: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment sent me a movie for review on my dad blog.
