12 Road Trip Survival Tips

Rio road trip

Our family recently went on a Rio road trip. OK, it was actually just a day trip from Portland down to Corvallis and Marys Peak (highest peak in the Oregon Coast Range). My oldest child will be a freshman in high school this fall, so I wanted to introduce her to my alma mater, Oregon State University. She still has four years to decide where she wants to go to college, but I figure I should start the brainwashing as early as possible. The last thing I want to see happen is for my daughter to become an Oregon Duck, my school’s rival to the south. Anyway, this post isn’t about selecting a college. I’m actually sharing some road survival trips for parents of young kids.

DVD Review ~ Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever – it's berry good

Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever DVD

Fox Home Entertainment sent me the new Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever DVD to review on my dad blog. My kids have seen Strawberry Shortcake before, but this was the first time for me. The Strawberry Shortcake episodes on the DVD are very girly, but I still enjoyed watching them. So did my two boys — especially my toddler. He’s at the age when he’s has not been brain-washed into what movies and toys are considered girls movies and toys. Or maybe he just doesn’t care. Anyway, Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever is available now on DVD. It has a list price of $14.98, but you can currently purchase it for $9.99 on Amazon.

Giveaway ~ Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever

Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever DVD

I’m giving away the new Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Friends Forever DVD on my dad blog (thank you Fox Home Entertainment). I have not seen the DVD, but according to the product literature, the animated movie is about manners:

When the very formal Berry Bitty Buggy Derby is revived, the girls are unfamiliar with the traditional behavior for the event. Blueberry starts off as the resident expert, but eventually gets so obsessed with manners she does more harm than good. In the end, the girls work together and learn the true meaning of being BFF’s or Berry Friends Forever.

Review ~ Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days DVD

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days ~ Fox Home Entertainment

Fox Home Entertainment sent me a DVD screener disc to review Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days on my dad blog. The movie is based on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series by Jeff Kinney. Dog Days is the third film in the movie series. This movie is OK for parents, but the intended audience is young kids — especially fans of the books. Judging by the way my nine-year old was laughing, grade schoolers will love the film. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days will be available on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow (December 18th).

Ice Age: Continental Drift DVD Review

Ice Age: Continental Drift DVD ~ Fox Home Entertainment

Fox Home Entertainment sent me a DVD screener for Ice Age: Continental Drift. I saw Ice Age 4 at the theater with my kids last summer. We enjoyed it at the cinema, but I think the animated movie is more entertaining on DVD. The main reason is because we could laugh loudly and talk freely while watching the film at home. Ice Age: Continental Drift is available now on DVD and Blu-ray.

In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home. DVD Review: The Watch – it's funny, but not stupid funny

The Watch Blu-ray

Fox Home Entertainment sent me a DVD screener to review The Watch on my dad blog. The movie is about a neighborhood watch group that uncovers an alien behind a murder. The film is entertaining even though it’s a bit predictable. The Watch will be available on Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow (November 13th).
