HBO is releasing season two of Ballers on Blu-ray and DVD next week. Ballers is about a former football player who now works as a money manager for football players. I love this series. It has a football feel, yet it rarely show athletes playing football. Ballers is more about the characters instead of the game of football. The characters grow on you and you become vested in their lives. Ballers: S2 is available now on digital HD, and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on January 31st. Note: the series is rated TV-MA for nudity and sex scenes.
HBO is releasing the first season of Ballers on Tuesday. I watched the first season recently and liked it. I think Ballers would be a fun Father’s Day gift for dads who love sports. The series is about a former NFL player who is now using his connections to sign up athletes for the investment firm he works for. The show is a really good drama and the characters are interesting. Like I already said, Ballers would be a good gift for a dad into sports. Ballers: The Complete First Season will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD on June 14th. Note: Ballers is rated TV-MA for profanity, nudity and sex scenes.
My oldest son and I saw an early screening of Fast and Furious 6 last week. We loved it! There is a lot action, mayhem, and car chases. The movie is entertaining and there is excellent chemistry between the main characters. The sixth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, and Paul Walker. Fast and Furious 6 (Universal Pictures) opens in theaters today (May 24th). Continue reading for the full review.
Thanks to Warner Bros., I’m giving away the Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Blu-ray Combo Pack on my dad blog. My kids and I saw a screening for the movie a few months ago. We loved it (read my Journey 2 movie review). The film features Dwayne Johnson, who sings a wonderful version of What a Wonderful World in the movie. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital Download on June 5th.

The 411 for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
|The story||Sean Anderson and his stepfather discover the location of a mythical island, and goes there to recuse Sean’s grandfather.|
|Appropriateness for children||No sexual content or bloody scenes, and I don’t recall any bad language. The movie isn’t scary, but some of the action scenes may be a little tense for young children (a couple of times, my kids grabbed my arm or jerked their head back).|
|3D effects||Decent, but not spectacular like Avatar and Hugo. There’s 3D depth and some scenes feature objects flying out of the screen.|
|Release date||February 10, 2012|
|Rating||Rated PG for action, and brief mild language|
The kids and I are looking forward to seeing the upcoming Journey 2: The Mysterious Island movie (featuring Dwayne Johnson and Vanessa Hudgens). The film is a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth (featured Brendan Fraser). To help kick off the new movie, Warner Bros Pictures is giving away two Journey 2 prize packs on my dad blog. Each prize pack consists of four movie tickets for Journey 2, a t-shirt, a canteen, and a compass. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island opens in theaters on Friday, February 10, 2012.
Mattel sent my son a new toy a couple of days ago. It’s The Rock WWE action figure. My son and I have seen Dwayne Johnson in several movies, but we have never seen him wrestle. As I have mentioned many times on my dad blog, my son is into superheroes, not wrestling. Yet for a reason I don’t understand, my seven year old likes his wrestling action figures. I can even hear him engaging in pretend wrestling matches in his room sometimes. Even though my son has not seen any WWE events, he actually knows the names of some the wrestlers. Apparently this is something he learned from some of his school buddies.
