Good morning everyone. I’m just writing a quick note about Amazon’s Summer Reading Contest. The grand prize includes something for each family member to enjoy — the newly relaunched Kindle Paperwhite, two Kindle Voyages (Amazon’s most advanced e-reader), three kindle covers, Amazon’s Fire HD Kids Edition tablet (designed specifically for kids with a 2-year worry-free guarantee), a pair of kid’s headphones, a Fire TV, a Fire phone, and a $500 Amazon Gift Card. Awesome, right? I have not entered yet, but my understanding is that all you need to do to enter is submit a photo of your children reading. You better hurry, the contest ends Monday, August 3rd.
Friday was National Reading Day. My kids love books. Some of their favorites are Magic Tree House; Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!; The Sword of Summer; Winter Turning; The World According to Humphrey; and The Year of the Book. To help celebrate reading day and to kick off the release of Book of Life (January 27), Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me a kit to help my kids tell the story of our family. I told my kids to use the kit to illustrate a story about our family. What I got was something totally unexpected. I also learned something about my kids — they are weird. Really weird. I’m sure many of you are excited about Black Friday and of course all the pre Black Friday sales. But if you can’t find the right gift this weekend, then you should think about shopping at Barnes & Noble. In addition to zillions of books, Barnes & Noble also has toys, games, and the Nook tablet.
Mother’s Day is next Sunday so I thought I would share some gift ideas today. If the mom in your life is into gadgets, think about getting her an Amazon Fire TV, Kindle Fire HDX or Kindle Paperwhite. Fire TV is a small box that plugs into a TV and gives moms access to content from Netflix, Showtime, Hulu Plus and other media providers (including video on demand and video games). It’s a great gift for moms who are into entertainment. For moms who are into reading, there’s the Kindle Paperwhite. The e-reader is small, but it can hold up to 1,100 books (not including free cloud storage). For moms who love books, surfing the web, playing games, and watching movies, there’s the Kindle Fire HDX. The device is a tablet that lets moms do it all. Not only will the Kindle Fire HDX entertain moms, the tablet can also act as a babysitter via the Kindle FreeTime feature that lets moms create customized profiles for children. With FreeTime, mothers can set daily screen limits and give access to appropriate content for their kids. Continue reading for other Mother’s Day gift ideas.
Father’s Day is less than a week away. If you are still looking for something, then consider some World of Eric Carle educational products. They are great for dads that enjoy spending time with their little caterpillars. Personally, I love it when my little one sits on my lap while I read to him. Thanks to The World of Eric Carle, you can win a prize pack on my dad blog. The World of Eric Carle prize pack consists of the book Papa, Please Get The Moon For Me; the Here We Go Steering Wheel Sound Book; and a code to download the Counting With The Very Hungry Caterpillar App.
I have another giveaway related to The Bible mini-series. I don’t have cable, but I hear the series is a big hit. More people watched The Bible than American Idol. The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. Thanks to the History Channel, I’m giving away one of the official The Bible companion books below (prize will be randomly selected):
- A Story of God and All of Us (Hardcover)
- A Story of God and All of Us (Reflections)
- A Story of God and All of Us (Young Readers)
Christmas is four days away. If you’re still looking for a gift idea for a child, head over to your nearest bookstore and purchase one of the excellent books on my latest list of holiday gift ideas.
Thanks to 4 Sunflowers Media, I’m giving away a Fuzzwippers prize pack on my dad blog. The prize pack consists of a Fuzzwipper plush toy and two Fuzzwipper books: Fuzzwippers Find Good Listeners and Hello, We’re the Fuzzwippers. I reviewed the two Fuzzwipper books previously and I think both books are excellent gifts for kids ages three to seven). The company also has a third title coming out this Friday: Fuzzwippers Play Fair.
4 Sunflowers Media recently sent me their new book, Fuzzwippers Find Good Listeners. The new children book (for ages three to seven) features hamster-like creatures called Fuzzwippers. The kid-friendly animals are from the land of Fuzzwippers. The imaginary creatures reach out to children or anyone who needs a friend, assuring them that they are wanted and needed. The kids and I found the book delightful. It’s an excellent addition for you kid’s library. Fuzzwippers Find Good Listeners is available now for $8.99.
