Looking for a holiday gift idea? How about a Canary all-in-one home security system. The company sent me a unit for review on my dad blog (I’m also giving away a Canary to a lucky reader). I love the Canary home security system. It’s easy to use and is better than my other video system. I think the Canary is a cool gift for the geek dad or mom in your life. Canary offers the ultimate security solution with its built-in microphone, HD camera, motion detection sensors, siren and authority alert options, night vision, and air safety technology. The Canary comes in three colors: black, white or silver. It has a list price of $199, but it will be on sale for $179 in North America (US and Canada) from December 13th to December 26th.
Are you tired of seeing your kids sitting around playing video games? If you are, then you should check out Treasure Dash (Monkey Mojo Games). The free iOS app combines motion controls with virtual reality to get children on their feet and moving as they explore a colorful and immersive 3D world in the spirit of classic Nintendo adventures (like Mario and Zelda). It’s kinda of like a Wii or Kinect game for your mobile device. Treasure Dash is available now for the iPhone, iPad and other iOS devices. Like many parents, I have a ton of video footage of my kids. And when I show them to my friends and co-workers, they politely watch them. But they don’t get excited unless they see the footage I personally edited (see videos on this page). I’m lucky I have the skill to edit my own video. But many parents don’t. That’s when the upcoming VidMob app comes in handy. The app connects video content creators with video editors in a real-time, bid-based marketplace. The app has not been released yet, but it looks easy to use in the demo I saw last week at the TNT Portland event at the Westin Hotel. Just pick your favorite clips on your phone and then select a video editor with the app.
The summer has been going by fast and before we know it, the kids will be headed back to school again. Between trips to Oregon State University, Mary’s Peak, and Longview to visit the in-laws, I’ve been busy with home improving projects. I recently finished building a play court for the kids and now I’m starting on a big deck project. We also plan on going on a few more trips — like to Hood River for a ride on the dino train, cooling off at the beach on the Oregon coast, and a fun day at the Enchanted Forest near Salem. Before I return to my busy summer, I have five Frito-Lay announcements to make: (1) free Blippar mobile app, (2) Fire Bone Hot Dog giveaway, (3) Skylanders® Game Truck Party, (4) Skylanders® coupons, and (5) a giveaway on my dad blog.
Can you believe The Very Hungry Caterpillar celebrated its 45th anniversary about a week ago? The children’s classic has been around a very long time. In celebration, StoryToys and The World of Eric Carle are releasing The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Friends – Play & Explore app for the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The new 3D interactive app offers pre-schoolers new ways to interact with their favorite Eric Carle characters. As part of the promotion for the iOS app, I’m giving the app to five readers of my dad blog. In addition, one winner will also get a Stage & Play: The Very Hungry Caterpillar diorama toy.
Good morning, dads and moms. My youngest son is turning five on Monday, so we’re going to celebrate today. Before I go, I have two winner announcements this morning. But first, here are the current sweepstakes running on my dad and movie blogs.
- Legit DVD Giveaway (movie blog, ends 3/4)
- Thomas Spills and Thrills DVD Giveaway (dad blog, ends 3/6)
- Book Thief Blu-ray Giveaway (dad blog, ends 3/7)
Hello dads and moms! I have a nice giveaway for you today. Thanks to StoryToys, three readers of my dad blog will win the new Wake Up Mo! app. The mobile app is a follow up to their best-selling early learning app Goodnight Mo!. That app achieved more than 150 top 5 app chart placings globally, and over 40 Number 1’s in just a couple of weeks. Impressive, right? Wake up Mo is a fun, 3D pop-up app designed to help parents and caregivers teach young children a morning routine. It is available now for Apple iOS devices and will be available for Android smartphones soon.
The Olympic Winter Games are finally here. My favorite events are short and long track speed skating. Actually, I love to watch most of the events. They are so exciting and the athletes are so inspiring. Unlike the annual national and world championships, the Winter Olympics only take place once every four years. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, and talent to win an Olympic medal. All athletes deserve our support. But because I’m an American, I’m rooting for Team USA. BTW, AT&T is a proud sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Team and the U.S. Paralympic Team. And thanks to AT&T, I’m giving away a gold medal prize pack consisting of a $100 Visa Gift card and a Team USA memorabilia package (t-shirt, gloves, signed picture). Are you looking for a holiday gift idea for the little conductor in your family? If you are, I have a couple of ideas for you. The first suggestion is a Chuggington playset. My youngest son loves trains and he would love to get another Chuggington train set for Christmas. My second gift idea is the Chug Patrol: Ready to Rescue app (by StoryToys). According to the press material, this is the first-ever Chuggington interactive storybook app that looks and feels just like a real book. And thanks to Chuggington, I have a traintastic giveaway on my dad blog. I’m giving five Chug Patrol apps and one TOMY’s Chuggington StackTrack Ready to Race Deluxe Action Playset. BTW, Chuggington recently started its fourth season on Disney Junior.
This is the final part of a three-part series for Epic Tuesday on my dad blog. As you should know by now, Epic is out on Blu-ray and DVD today. What you might not know is that the movie comes with extra characters and backgrounds for the Epic Coloring and Storybook Builder App. To access the bonus app content, all you have to do is use the code included in the packing of the animated film.
