Two of my kids and I saw a screening of ParaNorman (Laika) last night. Laika is the studio that created Coraline. I enjoyed the movie, and loved the 3D stop-motion animation. My kids loved the movie too and giggled throughout the film. ParaNorman opens in theaters today. Below is a quick summary of the film. Continue reading for the full movie review of ParaNorman.

So that's how they made Norman in the ParaNorman movie

Making Norman video ~ ParaNorman, ~ LAIKA Studios

The kids and I can’t wait until ParaNorman [Facebook | Twitter] opens in theaters on August 17th. When it comes to ParaNorman, I’m a little bias for a couple of reasons. First, the 3D stop-motion animation was made in the Portland area. Unlike LA, a lot of films are not made in our city. The second reason I’m high on ParaNorman is because my daughter and I went on a tour at LAIKA Studios a few months ago, and we got a behind-the-scenes look at ParaNorman. BTW, LAIKA is also the animation studio that created Coraline.

Review and Giveaway: Happy Feet Two Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack

Happy Feet Two Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack ~ Warner Bros. Home Entertainment

Thanks to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, I’m giving a Happy Feet Two Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack on my dad blog. Happy Feet 2 will be available on Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and digital download next Tuesday (March 13th). The release of Happy Feet Two ties in with the recently updated Happy Feet Two Movie App. The latest version of the free app now synchs with the movie. I used the app while watching the movie over the weekend and I thought the synching of the app content with the movie was pretty neat. The app essentially gives you a second screen to view content and do activities related to the scene in the movie. For instance, during some of the singing scenes, the app displayed sing-a-long lyrics for the song. Unfortunately, the app didn’t make us sing any better.

Movie Review: Happy Feet 2 – the 3D is stunning

Happy Feet 2 movie (Warner Bros Pictures)

Last week, the kids and I saw an early 3D screening of Happy Feet 2 (Warner Bros Pictures). In this sequel, a little penguin named Erik struggles to fit in the tap dancing world of the Emperor Penguins. While Erik tries to find his true calling, disaster strikes and Erik and his father must find a way to solve their problem. Bottom line: the movie is fun and cute. The dancing penguins and tunes will make you want to get up and start dancing too. Happy Feet Two opens in theaters today. It’s rated PG for some rude humor and mild peril.

Movie Review: Lion King Roars Back in 3D – still feeling the love

Two of my kids and I were invited to see a screening of the Lion King (Disney) last month. We actually have the Lion King on DVD, but we have not watched it in several years. The re-release of the Lion King movie will return to theatres next Friday (September 16th) for a special two-week engagement. Good news for the 3D lovers out there, the G-rated film will actually be released in 3D for the first time. Bottom line: Lion King is a classic. It has a great soundtrack and is fun for both kids and parents. The Lion King is good on DVD, but is even better on the big screen.
