Review and Giveaway: Hershey’s Pieces Milk Chocolate with Almonds
The Hershey Company sent me their new Hershey’s Pieces Milk Chocolate with Almonds for review and giveaway on my dad blog. Do you want to know what I think? They taste great! I wish they would’ve sent me a whole case. I could eat those little pieces all day. The new Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds Pieces feature Hershey’s milk chocolate with a whole almond in each piece, covered in a crunchy hard shell. I also like the re-sealable bag because even though I could eat them all day long (the candy, not the bag), I can’t eat them all in one sitting without getting a tummy ache and getting in trouble with my wife.

Movie Review: The Darkest Hour – the aliens are invisible, so’s my interest
I saw a screening of The Darkest Hour (Summit Entertainment) last night. It’s a sci-fi movie about a bunch of invisible aliens invading Earth. Bottom line: the film looked promising when the aliens invaded within the first 15 minutes of the story. But then the movie became predictable and there was very little suspense. If you want to see a recent movie about aliens invading Earth, you’re better off watching Cowboys & Aliens on DVD. The Darkest Hour opens on Christmas day. The 89-minute movie is rated PG-13 for violence and language.

Review: War Horse – something was lost in the translation
My son and I saw a screening of War Horse (DreamWorks Pictures) last week. The movie is based on the War Horse book written by Michael Morpurgo, but does not follow the book completely. The film is about the up and down life of a horse in the first world war. Bottom line: it’s an excellent and mostly realistic story. The movie has a feel good ending, but it’s also a bit depressing at times. War Horse (Facebook | Twitter) rides into theaters on Christmas Day. The movie is rated PG-13 for war violence, but is not gory.
Review: The Adventures of Tintin
My youngest daughter and I saw a screening of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn last weekend. The animated movie is based on a series of comic books created by Belgian artist Hergé (Georges Remi). Bottom line: the animation is great, the adventure is interesting, but my six year old daughter fidgeted throughout the movie. My guess is that The Adventures of Tintin will appeal more to fans of the comic books than people who have never read the books or seen the cartoon series. The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (Paramount Pictures) opens in theaters in the U.S. today (December 21, 2011). The 107-minute film is rated PG for violence, drunkenness and brief smoking.
Giveaway: The Oregon Trail Video Game for the Wii and 3DS
Here’s a game from the past: the Oregon Trail video game (review). I vaguely remember playing this game when I was a kid. The retro game is now available for the Nintendo Wii and 3DS. In the Oregon Trail game, its your job to lead your family across 2000+ miles of rough terrain from Independence, Missouri to Oregon City in the middle of the 19th century. If you are still looking for a holiday gift, consider The Oregon Trail video game for the Wii ($19.96) and 3DS ($29.99). The game is rated E10+. Thanks to Red Wagon Games, I’m giving away The Oregon Trail video game on my dad blog.
Giveaway: Dolphin Tale Blu-ray Combo Pack
Thanks to Warner Bros. Entertainment, I’m giving away a Dolphin Tale Blu-ray combo pack. Dolphin Tale is based on a true story. It is about a young dolphin caught in a crab trap. As a result, its tail is severely damaged. The injured dolphin is rescued and transported to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, where a group of people try to save her. It’s an inspiring family movie and an excellent stocking stuffer. Dolphin Tale will be available on Tuesday (December 20, 2011). Dads and moms can buy it on Blu-ray Combo Pack with UltraViolet digital copy, or download to own it. Feel free to read my Dolphin Tale review.
Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes DVD
I received the Rise of the Planet of the Apes DVD for review on my dad blog. The film is a prequel to the 2001 release of Planet of the Apes. The first movie takes place in the future, and ended with the main character crash landing on Earth. But in the Earth of the future, apes are the dominated species and humans are slaves. Bottom line: I love the special effects in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The apes looked so realistic. I also thought the story was excellent. And even though the movie is science fiction, I thought the storyline was very plausible. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Twentieth Century Fox) is available now on DVD ($16.99) and Blu Ray + DVD/Digital Copy Combo ($24.99).
