Gifted Blu-ray Review

Gifted | Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Gifted is a story about a custody battle between the uncle of a child prodigy and her grandmother. Each one of them thinks they know what is best for the child. The story is a bit predictable at times, but the story is also very realistic and the acting is excellent. Gifted, which is rated PG-13, is available now in Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD.

What to do with a Gifted Child

Gifted is a story about a child prodigy (Mary) and her uncle (Frank). Mary is a mathematical genius. She belongs in a school that can challenge her. But her mother committed suicide when Mary was only a baby. Her uncle has been raising her ever since the death of Mary’s mother. Frank knows Mary is gifted, but he wants her to have a normal childhood so he enrolls her in a public school. Mary’s grandmother disagrees and tries to gain legal custody of Mary. The theme of the film is essentially a question of what is best for Mary: a normal childhood or an environment that will challenge her.

Capatin America is Excellent

Chris Evans, who is best known for his Captain America character, is the star of Gifted. I thought he was excellent and very believable as the main character, Frank Adler. His niece was played by Mckenna Grace, who was also excellent in the role of the mathematical child prodigy. Other cast members included Lindsay Duncan (Evelyn Adler), Jenny Slate (Bonnie Stevenson), Octavia Spencer (Roberta Taylor), Michael Kendall Kaplan (Justin Gilmore), John M. Jackson (Judge Edward Nichols), Glenn Plummer (Greg Cullen), John Finn (Aubrey Highsmith), Elizabeth Marvel (Gloria Davis), Candace B. Harris (Carly Rosen), Jon Sklaroff (Seymore Shankland), Jona Xiao (Lijuan), Julie Ann Emery (Pat Golding), and Keir O’Donnell (Bradley Pollard). Gifted was directed by Marc Webb.
