Five Things About Nine Lives

He’s Too Busy for His Family

Nine Lives starts off like the typical story about a successful businessman (Tom Brand) who has little time for his family. But then the story takes a twist when Tom’s consciousness ends up in the body of a cat. Meanwhile, Tom lies in a coma at a hospital. Too make matter worst, an ambitious employee of Tom is trying to take over the company. Part of his plan involves removing Tom from the respirator. When that happens, Tom will be stuck in the cat’s body for the rest of his life. In order to avoid this fate, Tom has to figure out how to swap his body back.

Not Enough Time for the Kids

The main story is about a man in a cat’s body, but the underlying story is about a dad finding the time and making sacrifices for his kids. This is obviously something most parents can relate to. We all love our kids, but sometimes we don’t spend as much time with them as we would like. I know that’s the case with me. I have a full time job, four kids and a ton of things I need to do. And when I’m short on time, the kids are the ones who usually has to pay the price. Hopefully, I’ll get my act together before I turn into a cat!

Who’s the Star: Kevin Spacey or Jennifer Garner?

Kevin Spacey played the main character, Tom Brand. However, Spacey didn’t have a lot of time in front of the camera. Instead, he spent most of his time providing the voice for a cat, Mr Fuzzy Pants. Jennifer Garner, on the other hand, had a lot of time in front of the camera. She played the part of Tom’s wife, Lara Brand. Other cast members include Robbie Amell (David Brand), Cheryl Hines (Madison Camden), Mark Consuelos (Ian Cox), Malina Weissman (Rebecca Brand), Christopher Walken (Felix Perkins), Talitha Bateman (Nicole Camden), Teddy Sears (Josh Myers), Jay Patterson (Benson), Jewelle Blackman (Doctor Cole), Serge Houde (Stein), Mark Camacho (Josh Boone), Chris Wilding (chirpy employee), and Kyle Gatehouse (nerdy employee). Nine Lives was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.

His eponymous company FireBrand is nearing completion on its greatest achievement to date — the tallest skyscraper in the northern hemisphere. But Tom’s workaholic lifestyle has disconnected him from his family, particularly his beautiful wife Lara (Jennifer Garner) and his adoring daughter Rebecca (Malina Weissman). Rebecca’s 11th birthday is here, and she wants the gift she wants every year, a cat. Tom hates cats, but he is without a gift and time is running out. His GPS directs him to a mystical pet store brimming with odd and exotic cats- where the store’s eccentric owner- Felix Perkins (Christopher Walken), presents him with a majestic tomcat, named Mr. Fuzzypants. En route to his daughter’s party, Tom has a terrible accident. When he regains consciousness he discovers that somehow, he has become trapped inside the body of the cat. Adopted by his own family, he begins to experience what life is truly like for the family pet, and as a cat, Tom begins to see his family and his life through a new and unexpected perspective. Meanwhile, his family adjusts to life with an odd and stubborn cat, and his son David (Robbie Amell), steps up in ways Tom never expected. If any hope exists of returning to his family as the husband and father they deserve, Tom will have to learn why he has been placed in this peculiar situation and the great lengths he must go to earn back his human existence.
