If you’re a fan of Blinky Bill, then you’ll be happy to know Blinky Bill: The Movie is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD on October 11th. For those of you who don’t know (like me) Blinky Bill is a koala. The character is based on a book series and is one of Australia’s most recognized characters. Shout! Factory Kids sent me Blinky Bill: The Movie for review on my dad blog. I thought the animated film was OK, but my two youngest children loved it. The movie even made them laugh from time to time. BTW, Blinky Bill is rated PG and is family approved by The Dove Foundation.

The Story

Blinky Bill lives in Green Patch. The movie starts off with Blinky Bill’s father leaving Green Patch to explore the Sea of Wet Dragons. He doesn’t return, and after a year, Blinky Bill goes out to look for him. While on his quest, Blinky Bill meets a lizard, Jacko, and another koala, Nutsy. They join Blinky on his adventure. Meanwhile, a feral cat is in hot pursuit of Blinky Bill. He intends on killing Blinky. Back home, Cranklepot has taken over Green Patch. He kicks out Blinky’s mother and decides to close off Green Patch to other animals. Blinky Bill faces all sorts of adversities, but everything seems to work out in the end.

Mr. Bill went missing in the Outback some time ago and Blinky is the only one who believes his father is still alive. When Blinky discovers a mysterious marker that hints at his dad’s whereabouts, he embarks on a journey that takes him beyond the boundary of Green Patch and into the wild and dangerous Outback. He quickly makes friends with Nutsy, a zoo koala, and Jacko, a nervous frill-necked lizard.
