Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Review – sporty and affordable

Disney's All-Star Sports Resort

When we went to Disney World last summer, we stayed at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. I usually stay at cheaper motels, but All-Star Sports was actually quite affordable at $108 for Thursday and $111 for Friday (we went in mid August). As you can expect, the resort features a sports theme (we slept in the touchdown building). Thanks to a special promotion, we got a preferred room for the same price as a standard room. The inside of the rooms are essentially the same, but the preferred rooms are closer to the lobby and food court. Preferred rooms also have better views — usually of the pool or courtyard.

One of the reasons why I stayed at Disney’s All-Star Sports is because they offer free transportation to and from the airport. They even retrieve your luggage for you (one less thing to worry about). The hotel also offers free bus service to the Disney parks and Disney Spring (formerly Disney Downtown). Note: they didn’t check ID so I don’t think you have to stay at the hotel to use the free bus service to the parks.

As part of our stay, we received free MagicBands. They serve as keys to our rooms and you can make charges to your room with the MagicBands. Charging privileges require setting up a special pin number so your kids don’t accidentally charge things to your room. Another great benefit is that you can link your Disney park tickets to your MagicBands. The bands are much more convenient than carrying around tickets. And instead of whipping out your tickets for Fastpass+, you can just scan your MagicBand. Cool.

Disney's All-Star Sports Resort beds

One of the drawbacks of All-Star Sports is that the rooms are small. I didn’t mind because we didn’t spend much time in the room. Our room featured two double beds that can accommodate up to four people. My seven-year old son slept with me so the bed was fine for the both of us. I’m not sure how comfortable the bed would be for two adults. The room includes a TV and tiny refrigerator, but not a microwave.
