The Walking Dead Season 6

Looks like it’s a double feature for Greta Gerwig. She’s in two new Blu-ray and DVD releases this week. New titles include The Huntsman: Winter’s War (giveaway | review | Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain), The Walking Dead (Season 6), The Nice Guys (Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling), Ratchet & Clank (animated), Maggie’s Plan (Greta Gerwig, Julianne Moore), Wiener-Dog (Greta Gerwig), The Duel (Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson), Clown (Andy Powers), Roots (Malachi Kirby), and DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year (animated).

Blu-rays and DVDs coming out the week of August 23, 2016

  • The Huntsman: Winter’s War (giveaway | review)
    Freya the Ice Queen (Emily Blunt) brings her sister Ravenna (Charlize Theron) back to life, and the powerful evil siblings plan to conquer the Enchanted Forest. Only the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and his secret lover Sara (Jessica Chastain) can stop them in this sequel continuing the inventive twist on the Snow White fable.

  • The Walking Dead Season 6
    Season Six starts with Alexandria’s safety shattered by multiple threats. To make it, the people of Alexandria will need to catch up with our survivors hardness while many of Rick’s people will need to take a step back from the violence and pragmatism they’ve needed to embrace. These reversals won’t happen easily, or without conflict. But now Rick’s group is fighting for something more than survival… They’re fighting for their home, and they will defend that at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within.

  • The Nice Guys
    Shane Black (Iron Man 3) directs this police drama set in Los Angeles during the 1970s, and centering on a pair of detectives who stumble into a sprawling conspiracy while investigating the alleged suicide of a once-prominent female porn star.

  • Ratchet & Clank (review)
    Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.

  • Maggie’s Plan
    A young woman longing to start a family (Greta Gerwig) becomes involved in a complicated love triangle with a professor (Ethan Hawke) and his theorist wife (Julianne Moore).

  • Wiener-Dog
    A dachshund is taken in by a veterinary technician named Dawn Wiener (Greta Gerwig), who soon sets off on a road trip. The lovable dog also encounters a young boy, a film professor, and a troubled grandmother and granddaughter.

  • The Duel
    The Duel stars Liam Hemsworth as a Texas Ranger who investigates a series of murders in a small town led by a charismatic preacher played by Woody Harrelson. However, the routine undercover investigation soon turns personal for the ranger who must solve the case before he loses everything to the mysterious town.

  • Clown
    Clown is a story of a loving father who dons a clown outfit and makeup to perform at his son’s sixth birthday, only to later discover that the costume — red nose and wig included — will not come off and his own personality changes in a horrific fashion. To break the curse of the evil outfit, the father must make grim choices with his own family facing danger.

  • DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year
    The students at Super Hero High get ready to celebrate the Hero of the Year award, but Dark Opal threatens to ruin the special day.

  • Roots
    An adaptation of Alex Haley’s Roots, chronicling the history of an African slave sold to America and his descendants.
