A Hologram For The King (Tom Hanks)

Looks like a slow week for new Blu-rays and DVDs. New titles include A Hologram For The King (Tom Hanks), Fathers and Daughters (Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried), and 11/22/63 (James Franco). You can’t go wrong with a Tom Hank movie, but 11/22/63 is at the top of my list. It’s based on my favorite Stephen King’s novel. Continue reading for a summary of the new Blu-rays and DVDs for this week.

Blu-rays and DVDs coming out the week of August 2, 2016

  • A Hologram For The King
Cultures collide when an American businessman (Tom Hanks) is sent to Saudi Arabia to close what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime. Baffled by local customs and stymied by an opaque bureaucracy, he eventually finds his footing with the help of a wise-cracking taxi driver (Alexander Black) and a beautiful Saudi doctor (Sarita Choudhury).

  • Fathers and Daughters
After a mental breakdown, an award-winning writer (Russell Crowe) copes with being a widower and a father while, 27 years later, his grown daughter (Amanda Seyfried) struggles to forge connections of her own.

  • 11/22/63
11.22.63 hurtles viewers deep into the unpredictable darkness of the American dream. James Franco stars as Jake Epping, a high school teacher at a loss with his life, who wants to make a difference and do something meaningful. Encouraged by his ailing friend (Chris Cooper), Jake journeys back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The story transports audiences into the world of 1960s Texas as Jake explores the multiple mysteries surrounding the alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. But Jake’s mission faces threats not only from Oswald, but from Sadie, a beautiful librarian he falls in love with, and from the Past itself… which doesn’t want to be changed. And if the Past doesn’t want to be changed, it will push back — often violently. With something for everyone, this edge-of-your seat mystery offers an epic and emotional thrill ride
