Kung Fu Panda 3 | Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Dreamworks

The kids and I saw Kung Fu Panda 3 again. We saw the film at the theater. We loved it then and still loved it when we saw it on Blu-ray. Before th Fourth of July weekend is over, we’ll probably see the movie for the third time. In my opinion, the animated movie is a fun film for kids and parents. Kung Fu Panda 3 is available now on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD. BTW, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Dreamworks sent me the movie for review on my dad blog. As always, the opinions expressed are mine and I am not obligated to write a positive review.

The story so far

In the first film, Po the panda became the Dragon Warrior even though he had no kung fu training at the start of the story. Po is so incompetent that the idea of him as the Dragon Warrior is laughable. It’s a good thing Kung Fu Panda is a comedy. In the second movie, Po defeats a weapon that can destroy kung fu. He’s still a goofball in the second film, but in a good way.

Kung Fu Panda 3 - Kai

The third story

In Kung Fu Panda 3, the new villain is a bull named Kai. He’s an ancient bull from the spirit world (after-life). Over the years, he has defeated all the masters in the spirit world and had taken their chi to become even more powerful. Kai then escapes the spirit world and defeats all the masters in the living world (except for Po). In order to defeat Kai, Po must master chi.

Po meets his biological dad

In this story, Po finally meets his biological dad, Li. Po’s father is a giant panda like Po. He and the rest of the pandas have been in hiding for years. But Li finally decides it’s time to bring his son to the secret panda commune. In order to convince his son to go back with him, Li tells Po he will teach Po how to master chi. But in reality, Li doesn’t really know how to master chi.

Kate Hudson joins the cast

As far as I can tell, all the regular casts are back in Kung Fu Panda 3. New to the cast is Kate Hudson. She’s the voice of Mei Mei, who is a panda full of herself. She’s a little annoying, but in a funny way. Other voice talents include Jack Black (Po), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Dustin Hoffman (Shifu), Jackie Chan (Monkey), Seth Rogen (Mantis), Lucy Liu (Viper), David Cross (Crane), James Hong (Mr. Ping), Bryan Cranston (Li), and J.K. Simmons (Kai). Kung Fu Panda 3 was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni.
