Orkin Summer Scientist Prize Pack

I can’t believe the school year will be over in less than two months. It seems like the school year goes by faster every year. I’m sure our kids can’t wait to spend the summer break outdoors. I love being outside too, but I hate the pesky mosquitoes. Not only are they annoying, but they could be serious health risks too. It’s a good thing the experts at Orkin study the science of mosquitoes and other pests closely in order to better tailor plans that help keep them out of your home this summer. BTW, I have a fun giveaway for the young scientist in your family. Thanks to Orkin, I’m giving a Summer Scientist Prize Pack on my dad blog.

  1. I took the Buzzer Beater Quiz & learned that adult mosquitoes are attracted to scented lotions, perfumes & soaps as well as standing water!

  2. We use the strechey bracelets for when we are out at night. I learned on the quiz that adult mosquitoes are attracted to lotions with scents.

  3. I learned that: Bright colors have not been proven to attract adult mosquitoes, but strong smells like perfumes, scented soaps, and lotions do. Standing water sources and hot exhaled gases also attract mosquitoes.

  4. Do not like having to come in early on a beautiful summer evening because of the mosquitoes so I try and keep them away with citronella and that only barely works so I use a yard spray made by orkin

  5. I have “skin so soft” lotion for my body barrier and I place mosquito control “biscuits” in possible breeding areas.

  6. **a note**

Twitter says @AskTheOrkinMan doesn’t exist, which is strange because I thought I saw it before. I won’t take the entry of course.

  7. Mosquitoes are attracted to scented lotions, so eliminating them helps. Also certain plants repel mosquitoes: Marigolds, rosemary, garlic, basil, lavendar. So plant them nearby.

  8. I was surprised to learn that perfumes, scented soaps, and lotions can attract adult mosquitoes just like standing water sources and exhaled gases do.

  9. I used to live in Winnipeg, MB., Canada and mosquitoes are super bad there. One year I had to wear a mosquito net hat and top just to get my gardening done during the day.

  10. My horror story was I was trying a new perfume at a bbq and boy did it attract them. I had never got so many bites

  11. Took the quiz surprise to mosquitos to learn mosquitos didnt like strong smells perfumes, scented soaps
