Ride Along 2

I recently watched Ride Along 2 again. The first time was at the theater earlier in the year. It’s a really funny movie, which is why I couldn’t wait to see it again on Blu-ray. Even though it’s a sequel, you don’t really need to watch the first movie first. You won’t have trouble following along. Ride Along 2 (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment) is available now on digital HD, and will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand on April 26th. BTW, the movie is rated PG-13 for sequences of violence, sexual content, language and some drug material. In my opinion, the movie is safe for most kids.

The First Ride Along

In the first Ride Along film, Detective James Payton take his sister’s boyfriend, Ben Barber, on a ride along. Ben is a high school security guard. He wants to prove to James that he is worthy of marrying his sister. Meanwhile, James thinks Ben is an idiot. He plays a joke on Ben, but Ben eventually help James solve a big case.

The Sequel

In the sequel, Ben is now a police officer. But he’s not satisfy with just being a cop. He also want to become a detective. James still thinks Ben is a joke and doesn’t think Ben will ever becomes a detective. To prove it, James take Ben on an assignment in Miami. James is convince Ben will make a fool of himself again. Because the film is predictable, Ben screws up constantly. But in the end, he saves the day.

The New Story

In Ride Along 2, James finds an encrypted flash drive during a bust. He goes to Miami to track down the hacker (A.J.) behind the encryption, but the real villain (Antonio Pope) is also after A.J. James and his team eventually realize Pope is the mastermind behind the operation, but they have trouble proving it because Pope is a well-respected figure in Miami.

Ken Jeong Joins The Cast

Ice Cube (James Payton) and Kevin Hart (Ben Barber) are back as the main characters. An excellent addition is Ken Jeong. He plays the part of A.J. and was very funny. Also new to the cast are Benjamin Bratt and Olivia Munn. Bratt plays the part of the villain, Antonio Pope. Munn is a Miami homicide detective, Maya. Other cast members include Tika Sumpter (Angela Payton), Bruce McGill (Lt. Brooks), Michael Rose (The Hitter / Gates), Sherri Shepherd (Cori), Arturo del Puerto (Alonso), Eric Goins (Assface), Carlos Gómez (Captain Hernandez), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Amir), Glen Powell (Troy), and Nadine Velazquez (Tasha). Ride Along 2 was directed by Tim Story.

Bonus Features

The Blu-ray Combo Pack includes the film in Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD formats. In addition, both the DVD and Blu-ray include a ton of special features. In my opinion, Ride Diaries, Kevin and Cube Brothers-in-Law and New Recruits are the most interesting.

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Gag Reel
  • Ride Along With Us
Ben and James host a police department’s recruitment video.
  • Behind the Scenes of Ride Along With Us
Go behind the scenes as Ben and James go in front of the camera to film their police department recruitment video.
  • Kevin and Cube: Brothers-In-Law
One of the secrets behind this franchise’s success is the chemistry between Kevin and Cube. Filled with plenty of jokes, lots of banter, and lots of loving insults, this piece won’t talk about how much they loved each other… it will show it.
  • Inside Black Hammer Vision
Bringing Ben Black Hammer’s love for gaming to life with the exciting Miami car chase scenes.
  • Feature Commentary with Director Tim Story
  • The Ride Along Roundtable (Blu-ray only)
  • The Ride Diaries (Blu-ray only)
Go on the set with Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Will Packer, Tim Story and the whole cast and crew and experience the fun, excitement and action involved in creating some of the film’s most dynamic scenes.
  • The New Recruits (Blu-ray only)
For this sequel, Tim Story and Will Packer knew that they had to up the ante and push the characters even further. One of their key tactics was to introduce some new players to the cast — Olivia Munn and Ken Jeong.
  • Ride Along With Kevin Hart (Blu-ray only)
Kevin Hart is as wild and fast-talking behind the scenes as he is on camera. In this up-close-and-personal piece, we go on the set and inside the trailer with Kevin as he sets up scenes, plays to camera and jokes with other cast members.
  • Cori’s Wedding Commercial (Blu-ray only)
As part of the wedding package, Cori was in charge of filming and editing Ben and Angela’s wedding video. Unfortunately, Cori accidentally recorded over the last half of the wedding with a commercial for her business.

Ride Along 2 Synopsis

The brothers-in-law are back! Ben (Kevin Hart; Get Hard, The Wedding Ringer), a recently graduated police rookie, now aspires to be a detective like his soon-to-be brother-in-law, but James (Ice Cube; 22 Jump Street, Barbershop) still doesn’t think that he has what it takes for the job. He reluctantly takes Ben with him to follow up on a lead in Miami. Plans for a quick trip go awry when their unorthodox policing gets them into a compromising situation that threatens to derail a major case… and Ben’s upcoming wedding day. Also starring Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn and Sherri Shepherd. The dynamic duo of Cube and Hart renew their comedic connection in this bigger, better, and funnier sequel!
