Veep: The Complete Fourth Season | HBO

I watched season four of VEEP earlier this week. The show is a comedy about the Vice President of the United States. The series stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the veep. The HBO show is really funny and is an excellent showcase for the talented Julia Louis-Dreyfus (she’s won an Emmy for each season of Veep). The two-disc Blu-ray includes all ten episodes of season four, plus hilarious deleted scenes. Veep: The Complete Fourth Season is available now on Digital HD, and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, April 19th. Note: there’s a lot of bad language in the show (it’s rated TV-MA), so don’t watch with your kids around.

The Show Grows on You

I’ll admit it, when I watched the first episode of VEEP (season one), it wasn’t exactly one of my favorite shows. But I like to watch two to three episodes before giving up on a new series. That was a good call in this case because the series and the characters grew on me. I can’t really relate to any of the characters, but I do like them. They’re funny in very serious and realistic situations. Another thing I like about the HBO series is the characters do things that seem fairly safe at first, but then they backfire and the VP finds herself in very hot water.

The Story

Selina Meyer is the vice president of the United States. Prior to season one, she ran for president and lost. Then she was selected as the new VP. In first three seasons, Selina reveals she hates the president and thinks he’s spineless. In season three, she decides to leave the ticket and run for president in six years. But then the president resigns and Selina becomes the new president. But because it’s mid-term, Selina also has to run to become president for the following term. Season four basically follows Selina as she runs for president. The fourth season ends on election night with the results in doubt.

The Cast

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is awesome again at VP Selina Meyer. New to the cast is Hugh Laurie. He plays the part of Tom James, Selina’s running mate. Other cast members include Anna Chlumsky (Amy Brookheimer), Tony Hale (Gary Walsh), Reid Scott (Dan Egan), Timothy Simons (Jonah Ryan), Matt Walsh (Mike McLintock), Sufe Bradshaw (Sue Wilson), Gary Cole (Kent Davison), Kevin Dunn (Ben Cafferty), Sam Richardson (Richard Splett), Sarah Sutherland (Catherine Meyer), and Randall Park (Danny Chung).

Veep: Season 4 Synopsis

Having become president after her predecessor stepped down, it remains to be seen whether her term will outlast that of America’s shortest-serving president, William Henry Harrison. With the stakes for Selina and her team higher than ever before, she must still run for election, and over the course of the season’s 10 episodes they will grapple with how to make her seem presidential. The series, created by Oscar nominee Armando Iannucci, features an ensemble cast including Emmy nominee Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Matt Walsh, Timothy C. Simons, Sufe Bradshaw, Kevin Dunn, Gary Cole and new series regular Sam Richardson. Recurring guests this season include Hugh Laurie, Patton Oswalt and Sarah Sutherland.
