I recently watched season two of Silicon Valley (HBO). The series is about a new start-up trying to survive the cut-throat world of Silicon Valley. I love the show. It’s funny, the characters are geeky, and the episodes are interesting. If you have not seen the series yet, I highly recommend it. Silicon Valley: The Complete Second Season is available now on Digital HD, and will be on Blu-ray and DVD on April 19, 2016. Note: there’s a lot of bad language in the show (it’s rated TV-MA), so don’t watch with your kids around.
Most of us have heard about how the early employees of Google became multi-millionaires. Silicon Valley is essentially the story about one of the many other groups that struggle to get funded. The main character, Richard Hendricks, develops the best file compression algorithm in the world. Words quickly spread and everyone wants to fund Richard’s first round. Then Richard’s former employer enters the picture and puts Richard’s future in doubt. But Richard comes through again and develops an even better file compression algorithm. All this happened in season one. In the second season, Richard feels even more pressure when a lawsuit causes his funding to dry up.
The Main Cast
Thomas Middleditch is the star of the series. He plays the part of the lovable Richard Hendricks. Martin Starr (Bertram Gilfoyle) and Kumail Nanjiani (Dinesh Chugtai), like the previous season, are funny together. Amanda Crew (Monica) is still lovely. I’m hoping she and Richard eventually hook up in the series. Other major cast members include T.J. Miller (Erlich Bachman), Zach Woods (Donald ‘Jared’ Dunn), Matt Ross (Gavin Belson), and Jimmy O. Yang (Jian Yang).
Silicon Valley: The Complete Second Season Bonus Features
The two-disc includes all ten episodes of season two. The Blu-ray has a runtime of about 320 minutes (including bonus materials). Special features include (Reality Bytes is the most interesting):
- Reality Bytes: The Art & Science Behind Silicon Valley
- Deleted Scenes
- Six Audio Commentaries with Mike Judge, Alec Berg, T.J. Miller and many more
