Kung Fu Panda 3

The kids and I saw a red-carpet screening of Kung Fu Panda 3 a couple of weeks ago. It was the world premier and the experience was pretty neat. In this latest installment of the Kung Fu Panda series, Po is reunited with his father (remember the ending in the second film?). As with the first two animated films, the kids and I loved Kung Fu Panda 3. It was full of awesomeness! Kung Fu Panda 3 (DreamWorks Animation) will open in theaters today — just in time for Chinese New Year. Continue reading to learn six things about the movie.

Six Things About Kung Fu Panda 3

  1. The film is part three in the Kung Fu Panda series
As you can guess, Kung Fu Panda 3 is the third part in the series. In the first film, Po the panda became the Dragon Warrior even though he had no kung fu training at the start of the story. In the second movie, Po defeats a weapon that can destroy kung fu.

  2. Po reunites with his father
In this third installment, Po’s biological father (Li) shows up. Li takes Po to a hidden village full of pandas. Po feels at home in the village, but he also doesn’t really know how to be a panda. Luckily, Po is a fast learner and soon Po is rolling, eating and sleeping like all the other pandas.

  3. The new villain is a bull from the spirit world
Kai is the new villain in Kung Fu Panda 3. He’s an ancient bull from the spirit world (after-life). Over the years, he has defeated all the masters in the spirit world and had taken their chi to become even more powerful. Kai then escapes the spirit world and defeats all the masters in the living world (except for Po).

  4. The Dragon Warrior must become the master of chi
In order to defeat Kai, Po trains the village of fun-loving, but clumsy pandas into Kung Fu Pandas. But that’s not enough, Po must also become a master of chi. Unfortunately, there’s no one who can teach Po to master chi.

  5. Kate Hudson joins the cast
Jack Black is back as the voice of Po. He’s as funny as ever. New to the cast is Kate Hudson. She plays the part of Mei Mei, who is a panda full of herself. She’s a little annoying, but in a funny way. Other cast members include Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Dustin Hoffman (Shifu), Jackie Chan (Monkey), Seth Rogen (Mantis), Lucy Liu (Viper), David Cross (Crane), James Hong (Mr. Ping), Bryan Cranston (Li), and J.K. Simmons (Kai). Kung Fu Panda 3 was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni.

  6. Kung Fu Panda 3 is rated PG
The 95-minute animated film is rated PG for martial arts action and some mild rude humor. As you would expect, the PG rating is mainly for the fight scenes.
