The Minions - Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment

My kids and I saw an early screening of the Minions earlier in the week. We loved it. As expected, the little Minions are still cute and funny. In fact, there were giggles through out the movie. Minions (Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment) opens in theaters Friday. Continue reading to learn five things about the Minions movie.

5 Things About the Minions Movie

  1. Minions is an origin story
Minions take place before both Despicable Me movies. In fact, it’s an origin story that starts at the beginning of time. The story starts off with three Minions (Kevin, Bob, and Stuart) evolving from simple organisms to become the Minions we know from the Despicable Me films. From the start, the three Minions are drawn to the most despicable creatures they meet (such as T-rex and Napoleon).

  2. The Minions need someone to follow
During a period of time, the Minions didn’t have someone to follow. As a result, they became very depressed. That’s when Kevin, Bob, and Stuart decide to go on a quest to find a new evil leader to follow. They eventually end up in Orlando where they meet Scarlett Overkill. She’s the ultimate villain of that time (1960’s). Scarlett Overkill orders the Minions to steal a crown. The Minions succeed, but are then imprisoned by Scarlett Overkill. The rest of the story is about how the Minions escape and get their revenge on Scarlett Overkill.

  3. Gru is in the animated movie
Minions is both an origin story and a prequel to the two Despicable Me movies. In the Minions film, the Minions meet a very young Gru. They are impressed with Gru’s despicableness so they chase after him at the end of the story.

  4. Sandra Bullock is wicked
Sandra Bullock lends her voice to the Minions movie. She played the part of the evil Scarlett Overkill. I think this is the first time Sandra played the part of a bad guy. Other voice talents included Jon Hamm (Herb Overkill), Michael Keaton (Walter Nelson), Allison Janney (Madge Nelson), Steve Coogan (Professor Flux / tower guard), Jennifer Saunders (Queen of England), Geoffrey Rush (narrator), Steve Carell (young Gru), Pierre Coffin (Minions), Katy Mixon (Tina), Michael Beattie (VNC announcer / Walter Jr.), Hiroyuki Sanada (Sumo Villain), Dave Rosenbaum (Fabrice), Alex Dowding (royal advisor), and Paul Thornley (news reporter). Minions was directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin.

  5. Minions is rated PG
The 91-minute animated film is rated PG for action and rude humor. The movie is fine for everyone. There really wasn’t anything inappropriate for kids.
