The best holiday of the year is just around the corner. That’s right, it’ll be Halloween in less than three weeks. I’ve been taking the kids around town to check out the latest Halloween props. What a big disappointment. All the stores we went to, except for one, didn’t really have any cool Halloween decorations. It’s like they decided to scale back on Halloween so they could focus on Christmas instead. I can’t believe they’re messing with my favorite holiday of the year. Spirit Halloween was the exception. They have just as much cool (if not more) Halloween stuff as last year.
Before I show you some of the cool stuff we found at Spirit Halloween, I want to tell you about their Spirit of Children program. Their philanthropic program supports Child Life departments across the country — making hospital stays less scary for kids and their families. Funds raised through the Spirit of Children program positively impacts thousands of pediatric patients and their families by providing both fun and funding to hospitals during the Halloween season and all year long. 100% of the funds raised are distributed to the 134 partnering Child Life departments across North America.
Through its donations, Spirit of Children has funded a variety of resources including music and art therapy programs, games and toys for patients, and assistance in funding additional services such as hospital playgrounds, so kids can leave their room and spend time with their peers. In our area, the philanthropic program raise funds for hospitals in the Northwest — including Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (Portland) and Seattle’s Children Hospital (Seattle). Last year, Spirit of Children raised $85,535 for Doernbecher bringing SOC’s total contribution to this hospital to $271,137 since 2007. I’m very grateful for Spirit Halloween’s philanthropic program. Our youngest child had a lot of health programs when he was a baby and he spent a lot of time at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
Spirit of Children’s goal this year is to raise $5.2 million — bringing its total contribution to more than $21 million donated since the program’s inception in 2006.To donate to the Spirit of Children program, visit your local Spirit Halloween store or donate online.
Now back to Spirit Halloween. The ghoul store carries a very large selection of costumes, props, accessories, hats, wigs, shoes, make-up, masks and much more. In addition to a large selection of cool Halloween stuff, Spirit Halloween have a lot of the props set up so you can see them in action. It was pretty cool checking out all the scary props. In my opinion, Spirit Halloween is like a toy store for adults like me.
