Rio 2 (20th Century Fox)

The kids and I saw Rio 2 last weekend. We enjoyed the film, and I really like the tunes in the movie. They had a great beat. In this sequel, Blu and Jewel head into the jungle to look for other blue macaws. Jewell grew up in the forest, so she’s quite at home in the wild. Blu, on the other hand, grew up in a house so he’s like a city boy in the jungle. For instance, Blu insists on wearing a fanny pack and navigating via gps. Funny bird. Rio 2 (20th Century Fox) opens in theaters today. Continue reading to learn six things about Rio 2.

6 Things About Rio 2

  1. You don’t need to see the first film to understand Rio 2
You can watch Rio 2 without seeing the first movie. Here’s what happened in the first film. When Blu was a baby in Rio, he was captured by smugglers. While in transport, he falls out of the truck and is rescued by a girl named Linda. They grow up together in Minnesota and become family. Then one day, a man named Tulio convinces the grown-up Linda to take Blu to Rio to mate with another blue macaw. They are believed to be the only blue macaws left. The two birds don’t hit if off at first, but they eventually fall in love. As a result, Blu and Linda decide to stay in Rio. That’s how the first movie ended.

  2. Rio 2 is a story about the environment vs the loggers
The sequel starts off several years after the first Rio movie. Blu and Jewel have three kids now, and they all live with Linda and Tulio. One day, Linda and Tulio discover evidence to suggest there may be other blue macaws in the rain forest. While they are searching for the blue macaws, the group stumbles across a large flock led by Jewel’s father. Meanwhile, loggers are destroying areas of the rain forest. The loggers and blue macaws eventually confront each other, and their confrontation turns in a battle to save the environment.

  3. The movie is more fun for adults than kids
The main target audience for the movie is children. However, I noticed at the screening that parents seem to enjoy the film more than kids. While there were scenes that made children laugh, parents laughed more often during the movie.

  4. Bruno Mars sings well
We all know Bruno Mars sings well in real life, so it’s not a surprise to hear how well he sings in the movie too. His songs are awesome in the film. They make me want to buy the soundtrack.

  5. The main cast members return in the sequel
Jesse Eisenberg (Blu), Anne Hathaway (Jewel), Leslie Mann (Linda), and Rodrigo Santoro (Tulio) are back in Rio 2. In addition, new voice talents include Bruno Mars (Roberto) and Andy Garcia (Eduardo). Other voices are George Lopez (Rafael), Sergio Mendes (Street Vendor), Kate Micucci (Tiny), Janelle Monáe (Dr. Monae), Natalie Morales (Newscaster), Rita Moreno (Aunt Mimi), Tracy Morgan (Luiz), Will i Am (Pedro), Jake T. Austin (Fernando), Carlinhos Brown (Audition Bird), Kristin Chenoweth (Gabi), Jemaine Clement (Nigel), Jim Conroy (Capoeira Turtle), Rachel Crow (Carla), Bernardo de Paula (Carnival Barker / Blue Sentry), Nola Donkin (Opera Bird), Miguel Ferrer (Big Boss), Jamie Foxx (Nico), Pierce Gagnon (Tiago), Jeffrey Garcia (Spoonbill / Perl), and Bebel Gilberto (Eva). Rio 2 was directed by Carlos Saldanha.

  6. It’s rated G
Rio 2 is rated G, so it’s fine for the entire family. The movie is 101 minutes long.
