Admission

Just in time for spring break — about a zillion new movies. This week’s new films include Admission (Tina Fey, Paul Rudd), Olympus Has Fallen (Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman), Spring Breakers (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, James Franco), The Croods (animated), InAPPropriate Comedy (Lindsay Lohan), Dorfman in Love, Gimme the Loot, Love and Honor (Liam Hemsworth), and MURPH: The Protector. I have not seen any of these movies, but Admission and Olympus Has Fallen look the most interesting. Read on for a summary of the new movie releases.

Admission
Tina Fey and Paul Rudd are paired for the first time on-screen in the new comedy/drama directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Weitz, about the surprising detours we encounter on the road to happiness. Every spring, high school seniors anxiously await letters of college admission that will affirm and encourage their potential. At Princeton University, admissions officer Portia Nathan is a gatekeeper evaluating thousands of applicants. Year in and year out, Portia has lived her life by the book, at work as well as at the home she shares with Princeton professor Mark (Michael Sheen). When Clarence (Wallace Shawn), the Dean of Admissions, announces his impending retirement, the likeliest candidates to succeed him are Portia and her office rival Corinne (Gloria Reuben). For Portia, however, it’s business as usual as she hits the road on her annual recruiting trip.

Olympus Has Fallen
When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President and avert an even bigger crisis. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directs an all-star cast featuring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Ashley Judd and Rick Yune.

Spring Breakers
Four sexy college girls plan to fund their spring break getaway by burglarizing a fast food shack. But that’s only the beginning. During a night of partying, the girls hit a roadblock when they are arrested on drug charges. Hungover and clad only in bikinis, the girls appear before a judge but are bailed out unexpectedly by Alien, an infamous local thug who takes them under his wing and leads them on the wildest Spring Break trip in history. Rough on the outside but with a soft spot inside, Alien wins over the hearts of the young Spring Breakers, and leads them on a Spring Break they never could have imagined.

The Croods
The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure that follows the world’s first modern family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always been their home is destroyed. Traveling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods are rocked by generational clashes and seismic shifts as they discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures — and their outlook is changed forever.

InAPPropriate Comedy
In this comedy film, a computer tablet full of the world’s most hilariously offensive apps breaks through the borders of political correctness, stirring up cultural anarchy. Movie features Rob Schneider, Michelle Rodriguez, Adrien Brody, and Lindsay Lohan.

Dorfman in Love
Poor Deb Dorfman — twenty-seven and single, living in suburban Los Angeles with her depressed and unappreciative widowed father and working for her manic and unappreciative married brother. Deb desperately needs to get her own life. So, when Jay, her unrequited love, needs a cat sitter for a week, Deb volunteers. Bad news: Jay just moved into a downtown L.A. loft and it’s a total mess. Good news: This gives Deb one week to transform the chaos into the perfect home for Jay and win his heart. That’s not the only transformation that will occur before Jay returns.

Gimme the Loot
Malcolm and Sofia, two determined teens from the Bronx, are the ultimate graffiti-writers. When a rival gang buffs their latest masterpiece, they must hatch a plan to get revenge by tagging an iconic NYC landmark, but they need to raise $500 to pull off their spectacular scheme. Over the course of two whirlwind, sun-soaked summer days, Malcolm and Sofia travel on an epic urban adventure involving black market spray cans, illicit bodegas, stolen sneakers, a high wire heist, and a beautiful, rich girl’s necklace that is literally their key to becoming the biggest writers in the City.

Love and Honor
When a young soldier in Vietnam gets dumped by his hometown girl, he and his best friend decide to go AWOL and return to the States to win her back. Movie stars Liam Hemsworth.

MURPH: The Protector
MURPH: The Protector is a feature-length documentary based on LT Michael Murphy’s entire life of honor, courage and commitment, as told by his friends, family and teammates. Michael was raised in Patchogue, New York, attended Penn State University and then joined the U.S. Navy to serve in the SEAL Teams. He gave his life for his men in 2005 and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2007.
