Skylanders Giants Starter Kit

I put together a list of video games that I think would make wonderful gifts for kids. I tried out all the games except for Skylanders Giants, which is a follow-up to Skylanders Spyro. If you have a young boy in the family, then you already know Skylanders is a big hit at school. The video game is all my son and his friends talk about.

Video Games Gift Ideas

  • Skylanders Giants Starter Kit
There are two versions to this game. The starter kit is for kids who don’t own the previous Skylanders Spyro video game. For kids who already own the previous version, there is the Skylanders Giants Portal Owner Pack. The starter kit includes the Skylanders Giants game, three characters and a portal, while the owner pack only includes the video game and one character. If you find the starter kit on sale, it might even be cheaper than the owner pack. In that case, buy the the starter pack. Your can use the extra portal as a spare. Skylanders is available for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Wii U.

  • Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (review)
All four of my kids love this game for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Wii U. However, only my two oldest kids (ages twelve and nine) can figure out how to play this game on their own.

  • Angry Birds Trilogy (review)
If your kids love the Angry Birds app, then they’ll love Angry Birds Trilogy for the Xbox, Playstation, and 3DS. I tried out the game on the Xbox and love the big screen version better than the tiny app version.

  • Just Dance 4 (review)
My seven year old daughter loves this dancing game. She even asked for the video game for Christmas.

  • Kinect Rush (review)
This is another fun Kinect game for the whole family. The video game features characters from Toy Story, The Incredibles, Cars, Up, and Ratatouille.

  • Goosebumps Horrorland (review)
Goosebumps Horrorland has a horror theme, but I think it would make an excellent gift for Goosebumps fans. The game is available for the Wii, DS, and Playstation.

  • I Spy Universe/I Spy Fun House Game Pack (review)
This is a challenging DS game for kids. Very young children can play it. However, older kids will have an easier time finding all the hidden objects.

  • Family Game Night 4 (review)
Family Game Night 4 features five games: Connect 4 Basketball, Yahtzee! Bowling, Scrabble Flash, Bop It Boptagon, and Sorry! Sliders. It’s fun for the entire family. The game is available for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.

  1. We have kinect rush and i have to say I was extremely disappointed. We love Disney and we thought this game would be so cool but it’s difficult to set up and the controls are confusing.
