Frito-Lay Tailgating Tips and Giveaway
(YouTube video link: Tailgating Tips from Chef Jody Denton)
I’m excited about the college football season. My team, Oregon State, beat the Wisconsin Badgers a couple of weeks ago. This Saturday, the Beavers open the Pac-12 season with a road game at UCLA. LA is too far for me to drive for a tailgater. Fortunately, the game is on national TV so I’m going to fire up the grill in my backyard. Speaking of tailgaters, I have some tailgating tips (see video above) and a giveaway on my dad blog. I’m giving away a Frito-Lay prize pack worth $75-$100. Yummy!
Here’s what I’m giving away on my dad blog:
- Five large bag of chips
- Five coupons for dips
- 18-piece Mr BBQ Grilling Set
- Football
- Grill lighter
- Mescuite wood chips
- Soda can coolies
If you are hosting a tailgater, be sure to watch the Frito-Lay tailgating tips video at the top of the post. In the YouTube video, Grill Master and Frito-Lay Flavor Kitchen King Chef Jody Denton shares his favorite tailgating party tips that will send your fall football fiestas right into the end zone. He also answered some of my personal tailgating questions. Nice.

Alway bring extra towels for clean up because tailgating is dirty but fun
When tailgating try to avoid making foods that need to be kept refrigerated so you can enjoy the tailgate and not worry about food spoiling.
I make sure that we have a water bottle in case the fire gets out of control.
Make sure you take plenty of baby wipes for easy clean up.
We’re having a huge party this weekend for all my coworkers and friends at DISH, and these are exactly the kind of tips I’ve been looking for. My favorite tip from last year that I’ll be re-deploying is to always have more than one game on. With my Hopper, I’ll hook up three TVs in our living room. The Hopper has three tuners, so that will allow us to watch three different games at the same time in full HD! These other tips you have will come in handy, too! Thanks again!
Use a grill pan to grill fresh vegetables and you can lightly coat them with olive oil and seasoning or soy sauce for a healthy alternative to meat
Tailgating tip – always bring or make more than enough food than seems to be needed – it can run out quick
Get loads of food and a falt screen over 50 inches and your set!
When you’re grilling and the coals look like they need to get hotter, don’t go wild with any flammable liquids.
Bring lots of napkins!
Plan for those who may have food allergies by knowing what is in everything you brought or are cooking. Tailgating ends early if someone has a reaction.
Our group is easy- cold drinks, hot food that is easy to eat while cheering! ha!
Always have plenty of cold drinks to go with your good food.
Make edible dip holders out of scooped out tomatoes, peppers (green for Jets or Green Bay, Red for Redskins or KC, Yellow for GA Tech, etc). Saves time, money, and no trash!

I like to use frozen water bottles in my coolers, too.
always plan for 15 more than your expecting
Don’t cheap out on chips… serve Frito Lay products!
If you’re having a large party…use a water trough or an old bathtub as a cooler…fill it with ice and drinks and everyone will comment on the awesome idea!
Prepare what you can in advance and just relax and enjoy!!!!

Always have a variety of beverages!
if you are serving side dishes, make cold items that are super easy and can be made ahead
there is enough work and time involved with setup and being with guests
When grilling don’t go cheap on the charcoal and wood chips are the best!

Start early or you’ll miss the game.
I like everything to planned out a head of time.
I always plan to be ready an hour early because it seems there is always something that comes up.
always have plenty of cold drinks!!!
Cut vegetables before hand and pack them or pack marinade meat so you can just grill it whenever.
Always make more than you think you need! :)
always wash your grill when you are done so it dont sit there and stick

Prepare what you can in advance so you have more time to socialize

Skirt Steak is a unique meat for the grill!
I like to get things ready before the event…because when the party is going on I want to have fun and do as little work as possible! lol! :)
Be prepared the day before. Have thinks cooled or in the freezer remember to thaw several hours before party. All of this ready to go on the big party day.
When having a party always have a couple permanent markers sitting with the plastic cups. Let everyone put their names on their cups! No more wondering if the drink is yours and you can keep track of kid’s drinks easily.
Raw brocolli, red onion slices, black olives, cherry tomatoes, slced mushrooms-pour Wishbone dressing over. Yummy!
Prepare lots of finger foods. Always a big hit.

NEVER ever ever forget the beer! ;)
Have people brink their own drinks
Fill up the kiddie pool with ice and all different drinks.
Bring more than enough to share and lots of beer
when we have a get together I like to order meat and veggie trays from our local supermarket. it saves a lot of hassle
Plan and prepare in advance so you can enjoy the party too. And the KISS method is always sound advice.
I always line the grill with Reynolds wrap for easy cleanup
My best piece of advice is to invest in a good thermometer. It is way too easy to over cook or undercook meats just judging on look alone.
It sounds generic, but it is so true. do every bit of prepwork you can in advance. you won’t regret it.
Make cold dips ahead of time& fill ice trays. Then each one will thaw on game day for a perfect single serving!
