Master Lock dialSpeed electronic lock

Today, I’m reviewing and giving away the Master Lock dialSpeed electronic lock on my dad blog. This is the second item I’m reviewing as a member of the Master Lock Live Secure Safety Squad [Facebook]. The new dialSpeed is the coolest lock I’ve ever used. There are several reasons why I love this combination padlock. First, it’s electronic and lights up. Second, it’s easy to open (no complicated codes or key). Third, you can store your code online in the Master Lock Vault for free. In my opinion, the Master Lock dialSpeed electronic lock is an excellent item to add to your back to school supplies list. The lock has a list price of $39.68, but you can currently purchase it online for $24.99 (plus free shipping).

The electronic interface is by far the best feature of the Master Lock dialSpeed combination lock. Because of the electronic interface, you don’t need to memorize a series of meaningless numbers (such as 27 right, 36 left, 18 right) to open this lock. Instead, you just press a sequence of arrows. The series can be as short as four arrows, or as long as twelve arrows. BTW, there are only four arrows (up, down, right, left). There are also sets of letters and numbers for each arrow to make it easier to memorize the sequence of arrows. The electronic interface is great for kids because an arrow sequence is much easier to remember than three random numbers.

In addition to selecting your own code (the primary code), you can also create three guest codes for your children. The primary code has programming control, while the guest codes does not allow guests/kids to create, change or delete codes. There is also a back up master code in case you forget the primary code. The master backup code is set at the factory and is unique to the lock. It cannot be changed or deleted.

Another useful feature of the dialSpeed electronic lock is the Master Lock Vault. You can use this online feature to securely store your dialSpeed codes, and even passwords for your online accounts. With the Master Lock Vault, you can also save important files (like digital duplicates of passports, wills, and tax returns). In addition, you can use the Vault to schedule text, email, and voice notifications to help remember important dates (like my anniversary yesterday), tasks, and deadlines. If you want to give your kids access, they can even use the Vault to set up reminders for homework due dates and tests.

The Master Lock dialSpeed includes a 1G USB drive. It looks fancy, but it only contains three links. The drive does not contain any documents or software. If you ask me, the memory stick isn’t needed. Instead of connecting the drive to your computer, you can just go directly to the Master Lock site. However, the USB drive is useful if you don’t want to bookmark the links. Here are the links listed in the USB drive:

The dialSpeed is a wonderful lock. However, there are a couple of drawbacks. First, it’s electronic, so you’re not suppose to let the lock get wet. I guess this means I can’t use it to lock a submerged hatch on my submarine. The other drawback is that the lock won’t unlock if the battery dies. Luckily, the replaceable CR2032 battery lasts about five years. The center button also flashes yellow when the battery is low. In addition, the battery drawer features a quick-jump slot that lets you open the lock with a new battery.
