Holiday Idea: Redbox Movie and Video Game Rental
School is out until next year, so we decided to hold a fun night for the kids. They’ve been pretty good about doing home work (the oldest child got straight A’s) so we rewarded them with a fun night of video games and movies. Our local Blockbuster is no longer open, so we went to a nearby Redbox kiosk, which we found via their website. This was the first time we used Redbox and found their rental and return process fairly easy. I think Redbox is a great and easy way to host a fun night with friends and family. It’s also a convenient way to entertain the kids during the winter break. BTW, read on to find out about Redbox’s 12 Days of Deals and Prizes promotion.
Redbox 12 Days of Deals and Prizes
Redbox is hosting a cool contest. For twelve days, Redbox is offering daily prizes. To enter, all you have to do is text FUN to 727272 for instant savings of 25 cents to $1 off of movie and game rentals. By texting, you will also be entered to win a daily prize from Redbox. Each day, a random person will win prizes from Sony, Nintendo, Barnes & Noble, Activision and more. The Redbox promotion ends next Saturday (December 24, 2011).
As I mentioned previously, I found Redbox’s rental and return process easy. Their kiosk offers a good selection of the latest movies (including Blu-ray) and games for the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony Playstation 3. Their prices are great: $1.20 for DVDs, $1.50 for Blu-Ray disc, and $2.00 for video games (much lower than what Blockbuster use to charge us). I love Redbox’s video game rental because I can try it before I spend $30 to $50 for a game my kids might not like (we have a few of those collecting dust in our house).
Redbox has over 28,000 kiosk locations nationwide. But you don’t actually have to go to a kiosk to see which movies and video games they have in stock. You can browse or search the titles at a particular kiosk via the web, and then reserve the titles online. Neat! BTW, you have until 9pm the following day to return your movies and games. Their 9pm deadline is much more convenient than the earlier deadline of my old Blockbuster store. What’s even better is that you can return your rental to any Redbox kiosk in the U.S.
[Disclosure: I received a game and movie coupon codes for writing about Redbox as part of the Smiley360 program.]

My kids are home for winter break as well. It can get somewhat exhausting finding them something to keep them entertained. Luckily since I have been working at DISH, they have introduced Blockbuster Movie Pass! It’s a great alternative to Redbox and the cool thing about is we can even get to choose over 100,000 DVDs, games and TV shows mailed to our home. I definitely don’t want to be driving now in the snow so it’s perfect. Another great benefit is they allow us to stream movies to our TV and PC. If you ask me Blockbuster Movie Pass is a great way to go.
