Avon Walks for Breast Cancer – discount code and giveaway

I have a PSA today. I’m writing a post about the Avon Walks for Breast Cancer. Not only are the walks for a good cause, the Avon Foundation for Women is also offering a $20 registration discount to readers of my dad blog. In addition, if you registered for an event by September 16th, you will be entered to win a pink Kodak pocket HD video camera. Just leave a comment below to let me know which city you registered for.

The series of walks are held across the country. Thousands of women and men take part to raise money and increase awareness of breast cancer. Since the first Avon Walks for Breast Cancer in 2003, the Avon Foundation for Women has raised over $390 million through the hard work and dedication of thousands of walkers and breast cancer survivors. The remaining walks this year are in Santa Barbara (September 17-18), New York (October 15-16) and Charlotte (October 22-23).

BTW, you better get ready for the walks now. As a walker, you have the option of walking a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) over a weekend. That’s a lot of walking! In addition, each walker is required to raise at least $1,800 in donations.

Registration fee is $65 per walker. To receive a $20 discount for one of the remaining 2011 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events, use the promotion code WALK1 when registering for an Avon Walk. You can chose to go solo or join/create a team. If you can’t take part, please spread the word about the series of walks for breast cancer.

  1. I live in Houston, so they are all too far away for me to participate. My mom died from Breast Cancer when she was just 49 years old and I was only 19. This is a cause near and dear to my heart. I have participated in walks in the Houston area in the past and it is a wonderful experience!

  2. I registered and walked for the first time in San Francisco this past July. I also preregistered for the 2012 walk BEFORE I even started the event..I’m definitely IN IT TO END IT!!!

  3. Registered for the Santa Barbara Walk! First time for me – definitely not the last time – I’m In It To End It! My Mom and Aunt (on my dad’s side) both died from the disease, so it’s very close to my heart.

  4. I love that you are doing this! Just signed up for the Charlotte walk this October! Good luck to all the walkers out there!

  5. This is such a wonderful cause. I live in NJ, far from NY (which is the closest to us) however I do plan on donating. Honestly, I have some serious knee problems & wouldn’t be able to do the walk. But we’re a strong supporter of Breast Cancer events, especially since we had lost my wonderful mother in law to this desease two years ago.
    Thanks so much.

  6. I’m walking Santa Barbara and this is my 11th
year walking with Avon. I was there when it
was pallota teamworks. This walk is incredible that’s why come back year after year!

  7. I am not able to do the walks for health reasons, most days I cant walk up the block 5 houses away, but we have sadly had members of our family pass away and good friends who have beat and have not beat breast cancer…a good friend who passed away a year ago, a good friend living with it for about 8 years, and a mother in law who had mastectomy and treatments and living with it over 5 years. As sister in law also going on 4 years. There are no families who have left untouched by this.
We have family walks for cancer in general but not solely for breast cancer.

  8. Why only 3 cities? I have registered for 2012 Boston which will be my 6th time walking the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

  9. Crewed in Washington DC this past April. Now crewing in NYC in Oct for my 9th year. Great cause great people. We are in it to end it!

  10. I unfortunately cannot partake in the walk, but I support one of my girlies who does so every year. She just completed one in Colorado and is scheduled to walk in Santa Barbara with a different team. Go Pink and Team Wine Rack!!!

  11. None of these are close enough for me to take part in, but kudos to all of you who are able to support such a wonderful cause.

  12. I crewed Chicago this year and am registered for Chicago for next year (crew). I’m hoping to crew Charlotte in 2012. I have a bad ankle/foot (even though it’s getting better), so it might be another year or so before I get to walking more than 3-4 miles without it hurting even somewhat afterwards, if I decide to walk an event like the AWBC.

  13. Signed up for Crew for my 9th year! Will be working Info Services and Avon Store in beautiful Santa Barbara.

  14. I registered in Washington D.C not in any of the above listed ones a lot of my family and friends also do the walk as well it’s important

  15. Believe it or not I’ve never been on a trip to anywhere so now I am going and i need a camera so this will be perfect for me……….

  16. I have breast cancer in my family, and I have seen both the surviving side and the painful death due to this disease. I haven’t been able to walk due to my school schedule; however, i will be graduating soon and hope to walk every year beside my cousin, who lost her mother and my aunt, to this disease/
