I saw an online screening of Who is Simon Miller? (Facebook) last night with three of my kids (ages eleven, eight, and five). Who is Simon Miller? will premiere next Saturday, August 6th on NBC at 8pm ET/PT (7pm CT). P&G’s latest family movie is about a family with trust issues. Sarah (18-year old daughter) is accused of cheating at school and her mom, Meredith, doesn’t believe her when Sarah denies cheating. Meanwhile, Simon Miller (dad and a leading geologist) goes on a trip and then disappears. Thanks to Kevin (15-year old son), the family discovers a secret office and a stash of passports with Simon’s photo on them, but with different names. The Millers follow the clues to Simon’s disappearance. Along the way, they met various people. Some they can trust, and some they can’t.
Here are four things about Who is Simon Miller? movie:
Simon Miller is not coming soon to a theater near you
We like this movie and I think a lot of other families will too. It’s a nice thriller that moves along fairly quickly. Even though the movie was predictable at times, the film keeps you guessing throughout most of the story. With bigger stars and another 20-30 minutes (there were some gaps in the movie), Who is Simon Miller? could have opened at theaters. I’m not saying it would be a blockbuster, but I think some people would pay to see the film.
It’s True Lies with a much smaller budget
Who is Simon Miller? reminded me of True Lies. The storyline is a little similar, and both movies feature lying to the people you love. Obviously, a TV movies doesn’t have the same budget as a theater movie. As a result, Who is Simon Miller? didn’t have dazzling action sequences, or stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton, and Tia Carrere.
Who is Simon Miller? is family oriented
This is another family movie sponsored by Procter & Gamble. Like their other family movies, this film doesn’t contain any bad language or sexual content. There is a little violence, but not much and nothing bloody. And unlike other family movies, Simon Miller wasn’t as preachy. The honesty and trust theme wasn’t in your face.
Karate Kid’s girlfriend is a mom
The film features Loren Dean (Apollo 13) as Simon Miller (dad), Robyn Lively (Karate Kid III) as Meredith Miller (mom), Skyler Day (The Adventures of Ociee Nash) as Sarah Miller (daughter), Drew Koles (Easy A) as Kevin Miller (son), Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia!) as Amanda (Simon’s boss), and Olunike Adeliyi (Saw 3D: The Final Chapter) as Jasmine (co-worker).
