Outback Steakhouse Dinner with Dad Giveaway
I’m taking part in a campaign called the Outback Steakhouse Dinner with Dad Experience. Their goal is to get more dads to take time out to have dinner with their kids more often. As part of the campaign, Outback Steakhouse (Facebook | Twitter) is giving away a $45 gift certificate on my dad blog. Sweet! That should encourage a lot of fathers to take their kids to dinner and spend more time with them. I know my kids are excited because they love Outback’s Bloomin’ Onion.
To enter the Outback Steakhouse Dinner with Dad Experience Giveaway, you’re suppose to share a cherished dining moment with your kids. Here are a few of my memorable dining moments:
-
Many years ago when my oldest daughter was a toddler, I took her to a fast food restaurant for lunch. After we finished eating, I threw everything away except for my soda. I was saving that for the hot drive back home. But when I came back to the table, my soda was gone. I asked my daughter if she drank my soda and she said no. Then she told me she threw it away. Doh! She was trying to be helpful, but in the process she threw away something I still wanted to drink.
-
Another time, we had lunch at a store cafe. One of my kids ordered an ICEE. While she was drinking it, the bottom of her cup fell out. I’ve seen lids fall off before, but never the bottom. I didn’t think it was funny at the time, but now I wish it was captured on video. It would be funny to see the clip now.
-
When my oldest child was three, she spoke clearly. A few times when we were at restaurants, people would ask us how old our daughter was. And when we told them, they were amazed because our pre-school spoke so clearly and in complete sentences (sometimes even in compound sentences: “daddy, you can kiss me, but you can’t tickle me”). A proud and memorable daddy moment.

My favorite dinner with dad was after my 8th grade graduation. He made it so special. I got flowers and there were people that sang to me at the restaurant.

One time me and my sister were eating dinner with our dad, and I took this really silly picture of him drinking a margarita with the funniest expression on his face. To this day he can’t live down that picture and it pops up every once in a while!!!!

Whenever I had dinner out with my dad, he always asked for more butter for the rolls and more salad dressing for his salad. I loved it because I always wanted more butter too!

A great dinner memory with Dad is the time he taught me to eat raw oysters! It took him a while to convince me to try them…now I love them!!

Money was always tight for our family, but when I was about 12 years old, for my birthday, my dad took me to this really cool (but expensive) restaurant that I had always wanted to go to. It was built like a pirate ship, inside and out. We all dressed up (fancy, not like pirates), and when I got my leftovers to go, they wrapped the foil in the shape of a swan. It was the fanciest dinner I had ever been to in my life.
A favorite dinner moment with my Dad was when my Mom was working at a local restaurant for awhile and we would go eat at her work because he didn’t cook. We didn’t eat out often so it was always lots of fun.

I traveled with my dad to NYC last month and we had a blast. It was so much fun going out to dinner each night before we saw a Broadway show.
My most memorable dinner I had with my Dad was the last one. I didn’t realize it would be our last.

I went out with Dad and the family about a month ago to celebrate his birthday. It was memorable because it was at a Mexican restaurant and they placed this huge sombrero on him when the waiters sang Happy Birthday to him. So funny!

My dad loved to cook. One of the last meals he cooked for me was spaghetti. My family loved it.

I have no kids, so no memorable moment.
Thanks for the contest.
My dad was not comfortable in public social situations so my best memories are of family events at home or with relatives. One time I had been very ill and when I got better he cooked an entire meal of all my favorite dishes.

Thanks for the giveaway…my Dad would invariably order a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer in every restaurant we patronized; if the place didn’t serve shrimp cocktails there was an even chance that he would abruptly just get up from the table and say, “We’re leaving…”
He was very particular with his appetizers !
