Check My Ride Giveaway – Win $200 in Gas Cards

I’m giving away $200 in gas cards on my blog! Today’s giveaway is sponsored by Check My Ride (Facebook | Twitter), which is a website created by Experian Automotive (provider of AutoCheck vehicle history reports). Anyone can can create a free profile on Check My Ride and share their vehicle history and car stories.

My first car was a Plymouth Valiant. It wasn’t cool, but at least I had a car to drive when I was in college. The first car I was proud to own was an Eagle Talon. Now that was a sporty car. It’s too bad I don’t have the VIN numbers for my old cars. Then I could use the Where in the World is my Car tool to find out where my old cars are. I did use the tool to check up on my current car:

My Toyota Camry at Oregon Health Science University (OHSU)

According to the Check My Ride tool, my Toyota Camry was last seen at the Oregon Health Science University campus. I’m not sure how the data was obtained, but my guess is that hospital security must have run a check on my car because it was parked there so often. In 2007, our third child was hospitalized at OHSU for a week. In addition, our fourth child was also admitted to OHSU hospital several times in 2009 and 2010 for his many health problems. Luckily, we have not had to make a trip to the hospital this year.

Another cool feature of the Check My Ride site is the free AutoCheck vehicle history report. AutoCheck includes reports like accidents, title problems, mileage, vehicle use (ie: rental, taxi, government, etc), and ownership history. You can only get one free report, so select your vehicle wisely. Here’s part of my free car report:

  1. My first car was a 1990 Hyundai Excel, passed on from my older brother. It was in good condition because he took great care of it, but I hated the fact that it didn’t have air conditioning.

  2. my first car was a 1985 pont grand prix…i loved that car i ran it and ran it til she finally fell apart..ive been wanting another one and cant find one in good shape i miss my car lol

  3. My first car was a primer-gray Buick Skylark. I had to keep a popsicle stick under a cassette tape while it played, or it would shoot into the back seat. Most of the car was bondo…figured that out quick when I bumped into the trailer hitch of a truck and knocked a hole clean through the back side of the car.

  4. my first car was a CRX and my boyfriend called it a pregnant roller skate- b/c it was so tiny- it was a stick that was sticky and hard to work with- it was a hand me down from my uncle after he abused it.
    tcogbill at live dot com

  5. my first car was a 1988 dodge dynasty hahaha maroon colored.. i had to share it with my twin sister in college… we had to park it amongst porsches, bmws, and mercedes on campus because we went to a school where alot of people had alot of money haha fun times

  6. My first car was a new-to-me 2 door 96 Honda civic–which was totaled after I’d only had it for about a year. (not my fault!) My 2nd car (which is my current car) is a new-to-me 2 door 97 Honda civic–and I’ve been driving it for ten years as of this upcoming summer! What can I say? The honda’s been good to me!

  7. I didn’t get my own car until I was married. We bought a used Chevy blazer (I don’t even remember what year it was) but it turned out to be a great “first car” for me.

  8. My first car was a 72 Olds 98.The car was huge so I could fit a bunch of people in it.Of course back then gas was cheap so it wasn’t bad to cruise around in.Paid $100 bucks for it and it lasted a couple of years.

  9. My first car was a 1976 mustang…it is still my favorite car out of all that I’ve had since. The body was white and the roof and interior white. It even had white stripes on it’s body. What a sleek looking car it was.
    Thanks so much.

  10. My first car was a 1964 Dodge pick-up with 224 c.i.d. slant-six. Dad and I worked the engine over, put headers on it so we could have dual exhaust, and painted it bright orange. We added a white vinyl roof-look paint job on the cab.

We were in the process of building a tonneau cover for it when a brake line snapped and syphoned all of the brake fluid out of it when Dad drove it to work. (This was before split master cylinders.) The ensuing accident totaled the truck and nearly totaled Dad.

  11. My first car was a silver Datsun 280Z–I loved that car very sporty!! I had it for 5 years then one day it was gone –I had been out of the country for a week on vacation when I returned it was gone from my apartment’s underground parking space. The police never found it.

  12. The first car I drove was a VW Rabbit…it was rusting out on the floorboard so we put a piece of cardboard over the hole–then it was passed down to my brother who joked he had Fred Flinstone brakes!

  13. My first car was a plymouth fury. The day I bought it (used) the freeon leaked out all over my parents driveway. It was a nice looking car back in the early 1970’s but now it would cost a fortune to gas it!

  14. My first car was a Chevy Cavalier. I was so happy to drive it off the lot until I got a block away and ran out of gas. The car dealership could have at least put enough gas in there to get me to the station!

  15. My first car I bought for myself was a Saturn. This was within the first year they came out and it was a lemon. Got another one and just loved it.

  16. My first car was given to me as a gift from my stepfather. While I was very thankful for a ride….I was SO embarrassed! lol I had just turned 17 and had to drive my used faded out maroon stationwagon WITH paneling down the sides to highschool. Horrors! haha If all of this wasn’t uncool enough, my stepfather was “nice” enough to put a strip of two-tone blue shag carpet across the dash to “protect it from cracking.” No, I am not making all of this up either. Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  17. My first car was a 1960 something red impala,,,it was very cool looking,an even in the early 70’s it was okay to drive,,,back then gas was only around50-75 cents a gallon,,,we had fun!

  18. My first car was a ford escort. And i hated it because it was so small for me since i am a little taller than most females.

  19. First car was a 1976 Ford Pinto. Green with black doors that I got from a 1974 pinto to replace the rusted out doors that were on the 1976. As you said, it wasn’t cool, but it was transportation, and that was cooler than walking!

  20. Clicked on the like button and posted my dream of owning a MUstang or Camaro on your Facebook page as Jeff-Sue Legg

  21. My first car was a beast, for lack of a better word! A 1989 Dodge Dynasty passed onto me from my Aunt (she gave it to me in 2001 when I went to college). I was once told that it looked like something out of a horror film coming up over the main road on campus.

  22. My first car was a little Honda Civic. I loved that car. I drove it all over the Eastern coast down to the Florida Keys, up to NYC and everywhere in between. I drove it for 13 years and was so sad when it died for good. It was a great car.

  23. the hand me down family oldsmobile family station wagon – with the wood stripe down the side — could pack the friends in though
    tvollowitz at aol dot com

  24. My first car was a 1959 Renault Dauphin. It was white and I has orange racing stripes painted on it. Not very fast buy very economical.

    lkish77123 at gmail dot com

  25. My first car was an 87 Nissan Maxima… only because my Mom refused to buy the red Camaro I wanted because it was “too fast” and I would “kill myself” boooooooo for Mom being safe.

  26. The first car that I mostly got to drive was a port around the kids to practices, family car — I think it was like a mavrick or something like that? It was various shades of blue. Working a job in HS, my “friend” hid behind the seat and scared me to death when I got in after getting off of work.
The first car I call my own… own purchase… my little red toyota 4 speed, 2 door. loved her. felt cool, loved shifting…

  27. Like dCheck My Ride on FB audrey hudson Thanks for this terrific giveaway, with the price of gas this is a great prize and useful site.

  28. I posted about the next car that I would like to own on your FB page – along with FB clicking the like button above.

    o-o vroom vroom o-o

    1. I just described what the car should be like – not the name/model – not a minivan I don’t think, smaller and cuter for sure.

  29. My first car was a 1968 Mustang (I got her in the mid-late 70’s) I adored that car until my brother totaled it.

  30. My first car was a Toyota Corolla handed down from my family….and like you said about yours, it wasn’t cool, but I was really glad to have it!

  31. My first car was a hand me down Pontiac Bonneville. It was sooo comfy. Perfect for the long drive between home and college!

  32. My first car was a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere convertible. I LOVED that car. When the transmission started having issues my husband sold it while I was out of town. Needless to say, he’s not my husband anymore!

  33. My first car had had three previous owners, and the most recent had been a college kid. Needless to say it was not in great shape. A bolt broke off under the hood one day and severed a belt. It was a tank, but it got me where I was going nine out of ten times.

  34. My first car was a beat up Cadilac Eldarado.
It was a huge affordable car that was impossible to drive and after owning it for two months, luckily it broke down and couldn’t be revived. My parents made me buy it for 1,000 and I never got my money back. I worked at McDonalds to earn money for my car. I really wanted my friends old car which was a little more but I wasn’t aloud. Oh, and it was impossible to park ANYWHERE with that car to the point I’d have to wait for people to move their car before I could get out of the parking lot. UGHHHHH! Bad memories.
    flophasit at yahoo dot com

  35. My 1st car was an Olds Delta 88. I was 16 and before I was 19 I had drove it up and down the east coast! I loved that car and was sad when it finally died.

  36. 1st car was a Mercury Capri. It was a piece of junk that overheated and just stopped on a regular basis. It was also bright yellow and would attract bugs esp if I parked under a street light.

  37. Check My Ride sounds amazing. I was recently wondering what happened to a my parents old cars and my first car. My first car was a white 91 integra coupe, that lovely rice rocket, took me to many HIN car shows and stayed with me through high school and college. I once even managed to fit 7 people in its itty bitty space. lots of memories to be had, and it would be great to see what its been to via check my ride hehe.

  38. My first (I was 16 in 1990) was a chalkboard green 1976 Toyota Carolla. No air conditioning but it did have an 8 Track!

  39. My first car was a used 1982 Chevy Cavalier which ended up having a gas tank leak and smelled of gas all the time. But I loved that stupid car and drove it until the leak was so bad it barely held gas anymore at all

  40. oh, my first car was a piece of crap – so I put bumper stickers all over it, going with the theme of “unique” rather than “awful”

  41. I bought my first car in 1980, and it was a 1976 two-door Chevy Malibu. I loved that car and wished I still had it.

  42. It was in 1986 and I bought a nice, clean used 1977 Dodge Aspen from a neighbor with the money I’d saved working an after school job. I loved that car and drove it until it wouldn’t drive anymore.

  43. My first car was a 1991 Honda CRX. I loved that car! I kept it for 7 years, until a T&T ran me off the road. No kidding. I bounced back & forth across 3 lanes of interstate hitting a concrete wall, guardrail and finally came to a stop facing oncoming traffic. That car took a beating, but I was still able to drive it home after the wreck. I now have a Subaru and while it’s a great car with much better safety features… I would still choose my CRX any day. :)

  44. My first car was a 1976 Chevy stepside pickup. The motor leaked oil so bad that I carried a case of oil in the bed so I would always have some on hand

  45. MY first car was a bright yellow vw rabbit convertable. IT stood out like a sore thumb but I loved it, leaky roof and all. Taughta few friends how to drive stick on that as well. I miss it terribly!

  46. My first car was a Dodge Intrepid. It was kind of dark out when I got it, so I thought it was dark blue, but the next day I realized it was purple. Really purple. I only go car shopping in the day time now:)

  47. my first car was an old saab. i loved it. but when the repairs to keep it running started to get too much i had to get rid of it :(

  48. I got my first car to commute to college. It was a VW Karmann Ghia and I felt like I was sitting on the road when I drove it. I loved it!

  49. My first car was a Geo Metro Coupe (not the hatchback). Talk about tiny! Anyone in the back seat basically had to sit sideways to fit their legs in the car.

  50. Our first car was a Plymouth Duster, can’t remember the year. Possibly a 1970? My husband has always wondered where it is now. Too bad he doesn’t have the VIN to check on it.

    braaisjo at gmail dot com

  51. My first car was a gold Honda Accord. It was spunky and fun to drive. Unfortunately, it was totalled at an intersection when I was rear ended so it went to the junk yard.

  52. my first car was a 1988 chevy celebrity that was 4dr and grey. I bought that car in 1996 senior year for 200 dollars from a friend of my mom. i worked at wendy for my little part time job. I really really loved that car. if by chance i pass one on the road i get all nostalgic about how i would drive all fast on the highway. good times.. great times

  53. My first car- an ancient 1962 Ford Truck that couldn’t go more than 30 miles per hour; if you tried to, it rattled like crazy.

  54. Honestly, all I remember about my first car was that my dad had to sign for it and I thought I as a free bird. That was only 32 years ago.

    gmissycat at

  55. I never had a car until I married….our first car was an old white chevy stationwagon…when it got to the point of using more oil than gas when we went on a trip, we knew it was time to give it up

  56. My first car was a 16 year old Ford Engine Blue Datsun 710. I named her Petunia (because of the blue flower color). She may have been old and with no AC but because she had been in the care of my grandmother for those 16 years she was in perfect shape. She took such great care of me that I still miss her 20+ years on. Sadly while I was in college my brother borrowed her and I never saw her again :-(

  57. My first car was an Opel stationwagon- 60-something. I think? my parents-in-law had brought it over from Germany at some point, but that’s lost in the mists now. It was a fun car to learn to drive on- stick shift, something I’m proud of- and when I needed a different car finally I was able to sell it to a friend for not too much, and he kept it running for years. A good car, all around.

  58. My first car was a 1976 Volare it was made by Plymouth and it was the first year the car was out. It had a stalling problem and when I took it back the mechanic said I just didn’t know how to ‘drive’ the car – Seriously??!!! A few months later there was a recall and guess what for? Stalling!!

  59. My first car was an old Toyota Pickup truck that was as simple as could be–no bells or whistles. Didn’t even have a mirror on the right side (those used to be optional).

  60. I was 21 when I got my first car. A 1980 blue mustang that ended up getting side swiped by a drunk driver the first week I owned it. I was heart sick. Then the day after I got it back from the garage, a huge hail storm hit are area and the poor mustang was pelted by golf ball sized hail. I stood in the window and cried.

  61. My first car was a Corolla. It had a lot of problems, so I was constantly getting it repaired, but for the most part, it got me where I needed to go so I was very appreciative to have it. Thanks for the chance! :)

  62. My first care is the one I have now, and it runs like a dream :) Not the sexist thing in the world, but damned nice: 2008 Honda Accord (named Autochan)

    vlbsweeps at gmail dot com

  66. My first car was a 93 Ford Escort I got in 2003 for free. It was free because it had a blown engine and probably had well over 100,000 miles on it but since the odometer didn’t go to 100,000 it rolled back over to 0 LOL. I had that car for 18 months until my valve got stuck open and the mechanic couldn’t figure out why it kept shutting off on me driving on the highway. My engine got fried :(

  67. My first car was a used geo metro that the door handle on the passenger side would pop off and snap your fingers like a mouse trap and the passenger side window would fall at any given time, I miss that car. LOL

  68. My grandma’s ’93 (I think) Cutlass Supreme – with supreme electrical issues… And other weird quirks… The last two years without if have been heavenly :)

    bakergurl02 (at) yahoo (dot) com

  72. My first car was an old buick regal obtained at a car auction. It had been used in the police force originally and had non functioning back windows … it was so UNcool.

  73. My first car was a ride I shared with my high school boyfriend. It was a Chevy hatchback NOVA. It was a GORGEOUS car! Blue metallic paint as the base color and a silver metallic stripe from fender to door. That car would go! I had to do it! lol It was a beauty!

  74. I love my Jeep Wrangler, and so did everyone else. Everyone that drove a Jeep would always give me a wave, and I would always give the one too!

  75. My first car was a 1979 Chevy Nova. I learned to drive in that car.
    Thanks for the giveaway!
    eswright18 at gmail dot com

  76. My first car was purchased after I graduated from nursing school (if I say it was a diploma program it will give a real indication of my age!) since I needed to drive about 15 miles to work each day. No public transportation in small rural towns. It then lasted me through 2 years in the Navy, and 3 years past that. It was a Robin’s egg blue Rambler–not a Nash, but whatever came after that but used the name.

  77. The first car was blue and white chevy—piece of junk —but it did get me to class and back in college.

  81. My first “vehicle” was actually a 1984 Toyota Pickup I bought in 1988 with 22K miles for $4500 from a lady who’s husband had just passed away. I had it until 2000 when I was rear-ended and it was totaled with over 180K miles on it. Loved that Truck.

But if we are talking first “car”, then it was a 1982 Peugeot 505 Turbo-diesel with 55K miles. It was my Doctors car that he had been rear-ended in and he didn’t want to fix so he gave it to me for FREE. It took me 6 months and about $2000 to fix. It was a fun car to drive.
