Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer by John Grisham – Boring for Parents
When I heard John Grisham was writing a book for kids, I was a bit excited. Grisham is one of my favorite author and I was looking forward to introducing the Little Princess to the world of the legal thriller. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer. I thought the 263-page novel was way too simplistic. Yes, I know, the book is intended for children ages 9-12. But I think the plot can be a little more complex than thirteen-year old Theodore Boone trying to figure out what to do about an unknown witness for a murder case. Theodore Boone has to decide if he should keep his promise of remaining silent, which would result in the killer going free, or informing the judge about the witness, which would get the witness in legal trouble for something not related to the murder.
In fairness to John Grisham, I want to mention that my little girl actually likes the book. It was her first legal fiction. Other kids might like the book too, but this is a book grown-up fans of John Grisham can skip. When I was reading the book, I kept waiting for Grisham to wow me and to surprise me with something unexpected. But he didn’t deliver. Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer is currently selling for $9 at Amazon. Note: I read a lot of kids books as a way to encourage my ten year old to read books at her level — instead of books her seven year old brother checked out at the library. On another note, I can’t wait until John Grisham publishes his next grown-up book, The Confession: A Novel. I like his novels for adults much better.

Thanks for the review! My oldest boy is a voracious reader. He’s been enjoying the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz.
I’ll have to check out that series next time I’m at the library. Thanks.
I agree with you his novels for adults are absolutely awesome. Thanks for your review.
Sometimes kids books can be just as interesting for adults.. like the Harry Potter books… sad this is not one of them.
I like John Grisham books (adult versions) too.
Grisham is great, but I think it takes a lot more to do a middle school aged book than it is to do an adult book because you have to sensor it more. If it’s his first one, I can see where he’d have a problem. Still, it’s always good to read— even bad books. :)
I always love the novels of John Grisham, they are full of suspense and surprises _
All of the novels of John Grisham are very good, i love all the stories “~-
