Deal of the Day: Get Two Free Smartphones of Your Choice at T-Mobile
T-Mobile is running a special Father’s Day promotion this Saturday (June 19, 2010). Dads and moms who sign-up for a family plan can get two free smartphones of their choice. Yeah, I know, wireless providers offer free cell phones all the time. But those free mobiles phones are usually the less expensive, older models. In the T-Mobile Father’s Day promotion, dads and moms can get ANY PHONE in the T-Mobile store for FREE — like the new myTouch 3G Slide ($430 without contract or $180 with contract), the new HTC HD2 ($450 without contract or $200 with contract), and the new Garminfone ($450 without contract or $200 with contract). Too bad T-Mobile is not allowed to sell iPhones (yet?).
With T-Mobile Father’s Day promotion, dads and moms can get a new mobile phone for each new line they sign up for in the family plan. A family plan starts at $60 a month for 750 minutes (T-Mobile also has family plans for 1500 minutes and unlimited minutes). Their family plan includes two lines, unlimited nationwide T-Mobile to T-Mobile calling, unlimited nights and weekends, and whenever minutes parents and teenagers can use anytime. Dads and moms can add up to three more lines for $5 a month, per line. That’s $75 a month for five lines and five free smartphones. That’s a saving of about $1000 off their regular contract price for mobile phones. A great deal for a family of five. If my kids were older, I would be all over this promotion. Of course, if my kids were teenagers, I would have to get the unlimited minutes plan. I would also need a lot of therapy. I might even run away.
The Catch
There are a few catches for this promo. First, you have to sign a two-year contract for a family plan. Second, you have to pay a $35 per line activation fee. Third, mail-in rebate may apply (my guess is this applies mainly to the popular phones). Finally, some phones will require a web plan. Unlimited web access is $30 a month, per line for smartphones and $10 a month, per line for other types of cell phones.
If you already have a T-Mobile individual plan, you can still take advantage of the promotion by upgrading to a family plan. Then you can get a free mobile phone for the second line. If you already have a family plan with T-Mobile, you can get a free cell phone by adding an extra line. The promotion is for one day only on Saturday, June 13th at participating stores. Many stores will open early (8 am) for the special promotion. You should arrive early because the best smartphones will get snapped up fairly quickly.
