What is it about?
Duh. It’s about Alvin and his two chipmunk brothers (Simon and Theodore). This is the sequel to the first Alvin and the Chipmunks movie (released in 2007), but you don’t really need to see the first one to understand what’s going on in the second movie. This time around, the movie is about Alvin, Simon, and Theodore going to school. The squeakquel also features the Chipettes: Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor.
Will kids like the movie?
I can’t speak for your kids, but my kids liked the move. I asked my children if they liked it better than the first movie. And because my kids are demented, each one of them said yes. When I asked why, their insightful responses were: I don’t know (Little Princess, age nine), because (Little Monkey, age four), and because there’s more chipmunks (Spiderboy, age six). I’m actually surprised the kids like the sequel better than the first movie. We watched the first movie on DVD last year and the kids laughed uncontrollably throughout the movie. In the sequel, the Forever kids only laughed a few times.
Will dads and moms like the movie?
I don’t think so. I loved the first movie. I thought it was cute, entertaining, and I actually cared about the main non-chipmunk character (Dave — played by Jason Lee). In the stinkquel, I was bored and I really didn’t care about the main non-chipmunk character (Toby — played by Zachary Levi, who I like in the Chuck TV series). I was glad when the sequel finally ended. I should have brought a pillow and taken a nap.
When’s the best time to go to the restroom?
Ideally, you should go before the movie starts or afterwards. If your kids can’t wait, there’s no sense in making them wait for the right moment. There’s really nothing to miss.
Who’s in the movie?
Zachary Levi (Toby), David Cross (Ian), and Jason Lee (Dave, who was barely in this movie). The stinkquel features the voices of Justin Long (Alvin), Matthew Gray Gubler (Simon), Jesse McCartney (Theodore), Amy Poehler (Eleanor), Anna Faris (Jeanette), and Christina Applegate (Brittany).
