Kidknows Outdoor Thermometer for Kids
The folks over at Kidknows sent me an outdoor thermometer last summer. Yeah, I know that was a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I’ve been busy with dad stuff and I kinda forgot about it. I stuck the thermometer on the patio door and it has been there ever since (I’m actually impressed it hasn’t slid down the glass).
So, what’s so special about the Kidknows thermometer? Take a look at the photo below and see for yourself:
As you can see, it’s a thermometer for kids. The idea is to help children figure out what types of clothes to wear (ie – shorts and dresses on hot days and eskimo suits on cold days). This high tech gizmo is something most dads and moms wouldn’t need if kids were born with common sense. Sadly, my children lack common sense. Even my oldest child (the smart one) lacks common sense at times. It’s not unusual for her to put on a skirt in the middle of winter or a coat in the summer.
So, does this thermometer for kids work? Kinda. After I put up the Kidknows thermometer, my kids consulted the thermometer to figure out what to wear. But after a few days, the novelty wore off and the kids stopped looking at it. I think the thermometer will work with some children and not with others.
Even though the thermometer won’t work with all kids, I still like the idea behind Kidknows thermometer. It’s cute and affordable (priced under $7).
[Note: the location where you place the thermometer is important. For instance, I placed it on a south facing window. As a result, the temperature was off by over 30 degrees when the sun shone directly on the thermometer.]

You see the gizmo I’m creating. It shows the various expressions my wife makes and lists the things you can’t ask her when she’s making her angry face.
Interesting idea. My kids are awlays asking me if it’s going to be “long pants” weather or not. Maybe I need to make them a picture chart so they can put the number outside to it and see for themselves.
Hugs,
Holly

I didn’t you guys in Arizona ever wore long pants. I’m still wearing shorts here in Oregon. People think I’m crazy.
I noticed that your temp read 110 degrees. I was going to ask when you moved here and didn’t tell me you were coming!

I don’t think it ever reached 110 degrees here in my lifetime and I’m glad. I think 80′s is about right.
That is really cute. Have not seen one like that here.
I suppose they could ship one to you, but it’ll probably cost a billion dollars in shipping charges.
That’s pretty neat! I want one. I am going to have to check them out. Hope you had a great thanksgiving!

It wasn’t great, but at least we didn’t have to go to the ER like we did on Halloween. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving too. Hopefully you didn’t have to work.
I think I need one of these for me! I never dress appropriately for the weather.

Me too! I’m still wearing shorts and I don’t use an umbrella even though it rains almost every day this time of the year.
