The Host

The Host by Stephenie MeyerI just finished reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I have not read the Twilight series, but I can see why people love Stephenie Meyer’s books. She’s a wonderful writer and knows how to hook the reader.

The Host is about alien parasites that take control of the minds and bodies of humans. At first, I thought the book was going to be another typical sci-fi book about aliens taking over the earth, but it’s much more than that. It’s also a romantic story that involves a love triangle and an altruistic alien. The main character is a parasite, but you can’t help but like her/it. The Host is over 600 pages, but it’s a quick read. It’s one of those books that is hard to put down and will suck all up your free time. I highly recommend it.

For those of you who read The Host, do you think the book should have ended with Chapter 58? I thought Chapter 59 and the Epilogue were unnecessary. I don’t want to give away the ending, but the ending is something I would expect in a Hollywood movie. To me, the ending was a little to neat and didn’t seem to fit in with the mood of the story.

Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Yikes! Another book to buy. What will I do? Oh, I know- I’ll use the Borders gift card I will surely get for Christmas for my very consistent brother. I’ll let you know how I like it in ‘09. Thanks for the recommendation.

I had to go on a waiting list to get Twilight. It took three months to get it in at my local library.

It’s nuts. There are still over 400 people on the hold list over here. I think there’s more buzz here because the movie was shot in Oregon.

I’ve got to get on that Twilight bandwagon. I couldn’t get it at my library either. Maybe I’ll have to pick up The Host!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Totally NOT going to read it, glad you liked it though. I don’t like sci fi books! I like crime, suspense and mysteries…. eeeewwww to alien parasites!

If you don’t read the book, how will you know you’re neighbors have not been taken over by alien parasites? You need to read the book to figure out the clues.

Oh dear God, you’ve let Ms Meyers into your life. She will now consume it as it has consumed my household.

Run away as quickly as you can. I’m only saying this to save you…

damn you i’m gonna go broke buying books.

i had no idea she had this one out there. i read the whole twilight series in 2 weeks. all 4 books. but that was geared toward a teenage audience.

this sounds really different. i’m picking it up today.

I think she was aiming for the adult audience with this book.

I think she’s a believer of closure and those last chapters closes everything. We all know now its the end.

Its the same for the Twilight series.
