Holiday Time

It’s been five days since the Fourth of July and I still seem to be stuck on holiday time. Not sure why. Maybe there’s a tear in the time-space continuum and any minute now, the starship Enterprise will show up, save the universe, and take me back to real time.

Even though the Fourth was only a three-day holiday this year, I feel like I learned a lot. For instance:

Ready to Retire
Some people love their jobs and would be sad when they retire. Not me. When I retire, I’ll be on cloud 9.2. I don’t hate my job, but I don’t love it either. It’s just a means to an end (ie - buying toys for the little monsters). I wouldn’t mind being on holiday for the rest of my life. I’m not lazy. I just don’t enjoy trying to balance work and family life.

Boring Fireworks
After seeing the fireworks show at Disneyland, watching fireworks in our area is a bit disappointing. We didn’t even have a soundtrack like they did at Disneyland. And driving back home was like driving in smog or fog. Way too much smoke.

No Wait at Olive Garden
The weirdo-in-law took us to Olive Garden. Apparently, you can get a table right away on the Fourth for lunch. There was hardly anyone there. The long wait at Olive Garden is the main reason why we have not eaten there in a couple of years. When you have kids, waiting is like torture. Kinda takes the fun out of eating out.

Speedo
I saw the US swim trials on TV over the weekend and finally saw the new Speedo suits. Sorry ladies, you can’t gawk at men in a skimpy Speedo anymore. The new swim suit looks like a woman’s swim suit. The new Speedo covers almost the entire body and they even have shoulder straps. The things guys do to get an edge.

Kids Workshop
We finally made it to the kids workshop at Home Depot this year. Spiderboy and the Little Monkey each built a pirate ship and the Little Princess made a tray. Now for the problem. We have accumulated many, many Home Depot kids projects over the years. Most of them are piling up in our garage. We don’t really want to throw them away, but we’re running out of space. What to do, what to do.

The goofy face Spiderboy strikes again.

Someday the Little Princess will serve us breakfast in bed with that tray.

The Little Monkey really did build a pirate ship all by herself.
Pay no attention to the mad woman next to her.

Of course Little Monkey built the ship by herself. Her cuteness did it. Love the goggles!
Maybe you can get breakfast on the tray next father’s day.
Spiderboy’s goofy face is so silly.
Lines at restaurants stink.

Breakfast in bed sounds great for Father’s Day. I’m not cooking, am I?

Little Monkey probably gets mommy or daddy to do lots of things for her; it’s what youngest kids do best. *grin*

(Haven’t been to Olive Garden in years, either - hate to wait, and it’s just not worth it.)

I agree about the Little Monkey. She’s so cute, you just have to get them whatever they want. Next week, she’s getting a new car.

That’s surprising about olive garden. because the olive garden around here is always busy and there’s always a wait. it’s nuts! But we love the food. and it’s always good when we have gift cards, which people tend to give to us. Can’t pass up free dinner.

And yeah, after seeing fireworks at disney, i’m sure anything else pales in comparison.

I was surprise to get in so quickly too. I’ve always had to wait at Olive Garden.

When we went to Disney World and saw their fireworks I was truly amazed. Then I realized they do that show every night. Yeah, the local “down home” fireworks show is kinda lame compared to that.

Oh, and as for those kids projects, make sure you’re alone in the house before you throw them away. And cover the evidence, too, or they’ll just dig it out again.

OK, I’ll be sure to throw away their stuff when the kids are not around. I already do that with my wife and her stuff.

What, there’s no Home Depot down there? I thought they were everywhere.

Let me know if Enterprise shows up…I’m lost in the same rip. You still have me beat for making it to the Home Depot kids activity. I’m a loser. I know what you mean about fireworks, we went to a Diamond Backs game a few weeks ago and watched great fireworks, then did little po-dunk ones in the grandparent’s front yard on the 4th. The Disneyland show is amazing, thankfully it’s been a while so my kids don’t have the memory for 4th of July association.

Hugs,
Holly

Only my son wanted to watch the local fireworks. The girls lost interest and wandered off.

As the master of the house, you would think I get breakfast in bed every morning. So far, a big fat zero.

Aww! What cute kiddos! I love those projects! This is something I need to look into because it sounds like a lot of fun. Wonder what they charge?

It’s free, but it might cost you a finger or two if hold the nail for your kid to hammer.

Our town is so small, we don’t have fireworks sponsored by the city. On our street, we all chip in a little and the crazy neighbor with a missing thumb sets some off for us. He does a pretty good job, most of the time.

I hope your state isn’t like Oregon. Here cool fireworks are illegal. You can only buy boring fireworks that do not go up in the air.

No wait at the Olive Garden????? That has to be some sorta first!!?

I feel the same about work. Don’t love it. Don’t hate it.

Adorable pics!!! When Ben’s older and he doesn’t hurl the projects at someone’s head I’m going to take him to something like that!

The first time I took my son, I was afraid he might hit me in the head with the hammer. It’s sad when you’re afraid of your kids.

I use to call her the outlaw. Not sure if weirdo-in-law is a step up or step down.
