Super Heroes Are Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

As most of you know, my two oldest kids and I have a fondness for superheroes. That’s why we are looking forward to the upcoming superhero movies this summer. I doubt we’ll see any of them at the theater. Most of them are too long for my son. He starts fidgeting after about an hour. Plus he only wants to see the action part. All the dialog and plot development stuff us adults like, just bores my son. But we’re still excited about the new movies and can’t wait until the DVDs come out at the end of the year.

Iron ManIron Man
May 2, 2008
Wealthy industrialist Tony Stark is forced to build an armored suit after a life-threatening incident and then Tony uses the technology to fight evil. Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark (Iron Man). Other cast includes: Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Samuel L. Jackson, and Hilary Swank. [Note: Iron Man is one of the few superheroes who doesn't wear tights.]

The Incredible HulkThe Incredible Hulk
June 13, 2008
Upon returning to civilization, Bruce Banner is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination — a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk’s. Edward Norton stars as Bruce Banner (Hulk). Other cast includes: Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, and William Hurt. [Note: Bruce Banner's pants are magical. That's why his pants stay on no matter how big the Hulk gets.]

The Dark KnightThe Dark Knight
July 18, 2008
Batman continues his effort to bring justice to Gotham’s crime and corrupt. This time, The Dark Knight faces a rising psychopathic criminal called The Joker. Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne (Batman) and the late Heath Ledger plays the part of The Joker. Other cast includes: Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman. [Note: Batman is one of my favorite superheroes because he doesn't have any special powers. He can't even fly like Ironman. He's just smart and has lots of cool gadgets.]

Next AvengersNext Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow
August 26, 2008
This is a direct-to-DVD animated film. In the DVD, the children of the Avengers, Son of Black Widow and Captain America, Wasp and Giant-Man’s son, Thor’s daughter, and Black Panther’s son must stop the villainous android Ultron. [Note: my children are looking forward to this movie because the new Avengers are kids.]

What movies are you looking forward to seeing this summer?

With the kids I’m looking forward to Speed Racer and perhaps Wall-E. For myself I can’t wait for Get Smart.

  2. So, you like Batman because he’s ordinary? Does that mean you entertain thoughts that you, too, could be a Batman-type superhero?

  3. Vicky says:

I don’t know. I work too much for movies. Occastionally, I’ll watch a movie on watch-movies.net, but that’s about it. I think my husband wants to see the animated Star Wars thing that’s coming to theatre in July. But that’s about it. Heck, I haven’t even seen Spiderman 3 yet! I love those movies but still haven’t see the last part… uh, so behind!!

  4. tz says:

I think Iron Man looks good…it’s one of those movies, I’ll be happy to go with the kids….

I’m more of the romantic comedy myself, my lovely hubby obliges me on those too few occasions we’re not out w/ the kiddos

  5. yoshi says:

Hmm this summer, i’ve been looking forward to iron man, hancock, and forbidden kingdom. of course forbidden kingdom is out already. :P

  6. Aww the joys of super heros. I’m sure we’ll be taking in a few of these ourselves.

  7. peepnroosmom says:

We would like to see Iron Man, too. I heard it was Great! We would also like to see Wall-E.
I took Roo to see Horton Hears a Who. He really liked the Horton part, but couldn’t stand it when the movie switched to Whoville. Every time it did he would say “yets get outta here.”

  8. vasilisa says:

I hate to admit it, but I’m looking forward to Harry Potter… He’s my superhero, and he’s not out till Christmas!

PS: I finally did the “big reveal” of the “secret project” on my blog. I haven’t blogged for a while, but I thought I have to let the people whom I bugged about it before know what I’ve been up to. Hope you like it :-)

  9. New Diva says:

Not the biggest superhero fan, but I have a husband and a son, so I have a feeling the above movies will be very big in our house.

Personally, I am looking forward to Sex and the City.

BTW, your reasons for loving Batman are the exact reasons he is my least favorite. ;)

  10. Dixiechick says:

We are looking forward to Wall-E and Iron Man, as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark sequel…probably see Iron Man this weekend.

  11. Jason says:

My son is 6 and I’ve taken him to King Kong (geez, I think he was 3), Superman Returns, and unfortunately, Spiderman 3. He’s also seen the Fantastic Fours, X-Mens, Hulk, and pretty much anything else.

My wife recently questioned whether Iron Man was appropriate. I was like, shit hon, it’s a little too late for that.

    • Ironman doesn’t look that scary, but Batman might be. From the trailers, The Joker looks creepier than normal. But if your son wasn’t scare of Venom, he shouldn’t be scare of the new Joker.

  12. Colleen says:

I have a 20 year old that would love to hang with you at the movies..although I’m sure he and his friends will be in line for the first showing of Dark Knight. Probably a midnight showing. Would you like them to save you a place in line? : )

  13. Ann says:

Hubby took the day off and saw Iron Man today. He loved it. And he found a date b/c I didn’t want to go. hehe. Although, I won’t drag him to the Sex and the City movie. It’s win/win. ;)

  14. Sunrunner says:

I’ve already seen Iron Man twice!!! The first time was with my 4 year old, Zachary, who at one point leaned over to me and whispered “Mommy! I wish I could fly like that to school!” We live 5 minutes (walking) away from the school…
