They Stole Our Pumpkins

Posted by Daddy Forever on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 : : 40 comments

Can you believe that? Someone stole our pumpkins. My wife carved 11 pumpkins and now they are all gone. They even stole the little pumpkin the Little Princess picked during her pumpkin patch field trip at school (she picked a nice round orange pumpkin this time). Funny thing is, we didn’t even noticed the pumpkins were stolen at first (we rarely use the front door on weekends). Yesterday, my wife was driving around the neighborhood trying to get the Little Monkey to fall asleep when she noticed a pumpkin carved just like one she had carved. When she got home, she noticed all of our pumpkins were gone. The pumpkin she saw during her drive was our pumpkin.

My wife and I went over to the house with the stolen pumpkins. The mom who lived there said she heard a noise on Sunday at 4 am and saw someone throwing pumpkins from a car. This really doesn’t make any sense because the pumpkins were hallowed and carved. Most of the pumpkins on the lawn were 20 to 40 feet from the street. If someone threw the pumpkins from the street, the pumpkins would have been smashed or broken into several pieces on impact. None of the pumpkins on the lawn were smashed or broken in pieces. However, the pumpkins were damaged as if they had been kicked, which is consistent with what the thief’s neighbor told us. He said he saw the two boys who lived at the house kicking the pumpkins on Sunday. One boy is in high school and the other is in community college.

Here’s the kicker, some of our pumpkins were sitting neatly on their doorstep. Our tombstones were also neatly arranged on their step. I wonder how the thief managed to throw the pumpkins and tombstones 60+ feet to the porch and have them land so neatly? We can’t prove it, but we are fairly certain the boys or the boys’ friends stole our pumpkins.

Our pumpkins were here at our house

…now our pumpkins are somewhere else.

Our tombstones and pumpkins neatly arranged on someone’s doorstep. The Little Princess’ pumpkin is the small one next to the RIP tombstone.

Oh, my God! Unbelievable! This makes me so angry…on so many levels. How could someone do that? There are so many malicious evil people out there…all of your wife’s hard work…sad. Is there anything you can do about it?

We didn’t see who did it, so we can’t prove anything other than those are our pumpkins.

PLEASE tell me you “stole” them right BACK. God it would take all my will power not to spray paint the kids car or house or something.

My wife only wanted the Little Princess’ pumpkin back. She was too upset to claim her other pumpkins. Most of the carving was damaged.

Who would stoop so low as to steal someone else’s Halloween decorations? That’s just stupid. Did they not think the rightful owner would notice? Idiots.

I guess it’s a good thing that, with our arid climate, we can’t carve our pumpkins until the day of Halloween. Sheesh.

Makes sense. Little chance your pumpkins will get stolen on Halloween. Too many people out.

LOSERS!

I can’t believe the person who ended up with all of them left them on his porch. I would have had a sign out or something.. “Lost and Found Pumpkins need to find their way back home”.. ;-)

I think we would have placed them near the curb to make it easy for someone to find them. We wouldn’t move them to our porch.

My son has wanted to decorate our house for weeks, but I keep delaying. I don’t want to tell him the real reason, that there are jerks out there who would steal our stuff. He’ll learn that hard truth soon enough. We finally decorated on Sunday and I’ve been worried ever since… We have hundreds of dollars of skulls, goblins, tombstones, light-up monsters, etc. I hate having to be so nervous about people taking things that belong to us.

I think the same way about the good Halloween stuff. I didn’t think someone would steal our carved pumpkins.

Nasty piecs of work those boys… I do hope you are going to do something… like pinch them back or at least smash them and leave them there? I would anyway, but then, I’m not nice.

Not just pumpkins — carved pumpkins. My wife spent many hours carving them.

Looks like you may need to keep a close eye on whatever decorations you put in your yard for the holidays in December.

Do people in your ‘hood steal Santas?

man, that’s just awful! You should call the police, seriously. That’s messed up. You’d think that being that they are in HS and in college they would be a little more mature.

I think at the very least, you should sneak over in the middle of the night and pee on their front dorr. that’ll show them mature ;)

I had mine stolen too, but by squirrels. Read mine, maybe it make you feel better. :/

How awful. Those were your kid’s pumpkins. I can sympathize with your wife. That would really make me upset, too.
There is a house I go by on my to work every day. For years they would have the biggest pumpkins on their porch. I loved to see them. And every November 1st their pumpkins would be smashed. This happened for about four years in a row. Now they just have a huge blow up pumpkin. I guess they got tired of cleaning up smashed pumpkin off of their porch. Some kids really know how to ruin Halloween for the rest of us.

Oh My God, I can’t believe this happened to you too! My baby pumpkins were stolen at the beginning of the month, I think you even commented on that sad event, and now you have been hit too. What is the world coming too? So sorry this happened, hope your kids weren’t too too sad.

That sucks. I caught some kids trying to steal my neighbor’s pumpkins last year and raised a big ruckus. They only got away with one of them. We put our pumpkins in between our bushes, and that’s helped. Of course I haven’t kept it a total secret that I work at a jail, so maybe that helps too…

I apparently have a pumpkin thief too. They have taken 5 of my pumkins, one at a time. I can’t catch them. I did catch my security light go on two days ago around midnight. When I got to the door, another was gone and a car speeding up the street. So I know they are coming by car. It’s disturbing, because they have to come so close to my door and my son’s bedroom to do it. Tonight I’m tying fishing wire to the stem and running it inside with a bell. Hopefully they won’t notice the string and i’ll be alerted as to when they are there. I’ll let you know if it works
