The Daring Book for Girls

The Daring Book for GirlsLook at what Collins sent me, The Daring Book for Girls by Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz. Even though my daughter is only in the second grade, I decided to have the Little Princess do the book review. After all, my daughter is a girl and the book is for girls. Plus her teacher told us that the Little Princess reads at an upper third grade level. I don’t think the Little Princess has written a book review before, so I gave her five questions to answer. Below is her review (my comments are in italics).

(1) Do you like the book?

Yes. [Wow. Such a long answer. The Little Princess may read at an upper third grade level, but she doesn't write at the same level.]

(2) Why do you like or dislike the book?

Because it has chapters. [Her answer does not surprise me. The Little Princess has told me many times, she LOVES chapter books.]

(3) What do you like about the book?

That it has pictures. [Kids love books with pictures, don't they? That's why I use to read comic books when I was a kid. Look at how normal I turned out.]

(4) What don’t you like about the book?

Too many words. [It's a book. How can a book have too many words? Isn't that like saying Mozart used too many notes in his composition? In all fairness to the Little Princess, I have to say she doesn't normally read a book like The Daring Book for Girls. She reads storybooks.]

(5) What are your five favorite chapters?

1. Chinese Jump Rope

2. How To Be a Spy

3. Double Dutch Jump Rope

4. The Daring Girls Guide to Danger

5. Making a Cloth-Covered Book

[It doesn't surprise me that the Little Princess picked the jump rope and cloth-covered book chapters. Jump rope is the Little Princess favorite activity at the moment. She also loves arts and crafts. However, I'm not sure what to think about her selection of the spy and daring girls chapters. As far as I know, the Little Princess does not want to grow up to become a spy and currently, she is far from being daring.]

After I browsed the book and read my daughter’s review, here’s my take. The Daring Book for Girls is a wonderful book for moms and older girls. The book is full of interesting information and projects. Younger girls would enjoy the book too if the book was part of an activity with a mom, dad, or older sister.

[Update: I forgot to mention The Daring Book for Girls is a follow-up to The Dangerous Book for Boys (different authors).]

I wonder if they have a Daring book for Boys?
Not that my two younger ones need anything more daring…they are off the wall with their “daring” ideas as it is…

Glad she enjoyed the book…
Dixie

I forgot to mention The Dangerous Book for Boys I reviewed earlier this year.

How nice for you to let Princess to review the book. She seems like a very smart little girl. I would have loved the cloth covered book when I was her age.

I think it would still be a fun activity with your kids. We’ll probably make one when we have time.

Reminds of the time my sixth grade teacher gave me Moby Dick to read. I thought it was boring and the book way over my head.

A spy, huh? Watch out if she starts watching you with a funny look on her face. Great idea letting her review the book. Evil Genius!

Someday she’ll work for me while I kick back and relax.

I just giggled at the questions…so very typical of your daughter and the same kinds my daughter would have given. She loves the concept of chapter books because they’re the “big” kid thing but she’s not into reading them as much as I’d hoped! :)

Hugs,
Holly

I was hoping she would blow me away with her insightful review, but she’s just a second grader.

I was hoping to make something from the book, but we didn’t have time.

Yikes. She’s a genius. I have not read the book but based on her answers I will be running out to get it. Nicely done.

I don’t think the book will be released until next Tuesday (Oct 30).

Hurray for the Little Princess! What a great review!

I was glad to see that there’s a Daring Book for Girls. After the boy book came out, I was feeling a bit neglected.

Awww, great review! I tried to get my husband to a review of a history book, something he loves and he wouldn’t. Party pooper.
