Co-Sleeping with Co-Human
Why do people say they co-sleep with their kids? Is co-sleeping sort of like a co-pilot? If one person can’t sleep, does the other person take over and sleep for the sleepless person? To be consistent, people would have to say they co-eat dinner with their kids or they co-play with the kids. Who co-talks like that? So, why do people say “co-sleep?”
Speaking of co-sleep, Spiderboy is now sleeping in mommy’s and daddy’s bed. I don’t get it. Until recently, my son was never interested in sleeping in our bed. Spiderboy has seen his sisters sleeping in our room many times. You would think he would be jealous, but he didn’t care. When he woke up at night, he finds me and always insisted on sleeping in his own bed. There were nights when I was so tired that I didn’t want to get up. I begged my son to sleep in our bed, but he refused.
Now, my son prefers our bed over his bed, which is fine with me. Our bed is bigger than his bed and our bedroom is much cooler too. Also, as I wrote previously, my son is a great cuddler and who can say no to cuddling? Of course, that doesn’t mean I can’t have a little fun:

Ha! That took me a minute. That pic is going to HAVE to be blackmail pictures for later in life for him. So funny. Every parent needs to have an arsenal of blackmail pictures for when their sons turn 12.
Too bad I didn’t have a wig to put on him too.
You’re going to get that “nice” award revoked with pictures like this, you know!
Don’t all parents do this?
You really are Dr. Evil! I guess with all the girl stuff around who could resist? I used to dress my little brother up in a flower girl dress and pull his hair back with a head band. But I wasn’t the evil one, my mom was for taking pictures of it.
Well, I guess I can expect those pictures to show up on your blog for his next birthday.
Blackmail pics for when he is older…good to see you planning ahead!
Keep smilin!
Yep, you can never have too much blackmail material.
Ahh, the evil genius at work! LOL! So cute, yet so wrong. ;)
Wrong? What do you mean? Ha-haaaaaaaaaa!
oh my god I’m choking and coughing i’m laughing my ass off so hard…someone give me CPR for crying out loud.. damn your humor is SO in tune with my own…
Loved your commentary on co-sleeping, co-talking, etc… good thoughts on a strange word.
OK, we are now co-buddies.
Great! This is one of the Spiderboy pictures whereby he is not covering his face :)
Ha-ha. That would be a neat trick for him to pull off while he’s asleep.
Omigod! He will kill you for that … ahahaha! that is just too cute!
I don’t co-sleep with my kid because he hates it that there are three of us in bed and he gets squished. Hehe.
Payback will come when I’m old and defenseless.
Well, my little guy is also not wanting to sleep in his room. He’s not in my bed, but he’s on a featherbed by the side and has been for a couple months now. *sigh*
Hugs,
Holly
Ah, so you’re not getting kicked or elbowed while you sleep. At least not from your son.
When I saw the picture, at first I assumed that one of your other children had done it. But you! I am so surprised.
Okay, I’ve read this post several times, and I just realized I didn’t leave a comment!
My son loves to sleep in our bed; has for years. Unfortunately, he is now 8, and he’s not as small as he was when he was 3. Good thing he only comes once in a while and only in the mornings between 5-7. He’s a great cuddler, too.
Now why on earth did I never ever think of doing that to one of my sons??? Too funny!
We usually end up co-sleeping with one kid, then two, and sometimes all three, plus the dog, and then the two cats will decide to take a turn on top of the pile that was our bed. I understand that the kids take turns on which night they get to sleep in Mommy and Daddy’s bed on the nights that I work.
